The Office of Policy Coordination (OPC) occupies a unique position in the School of Medicine (SOM). It develops and manages the implementation of policy in the areas of conflict of interest, conflict of commitment, misconduct, research integrity, and use of the institution's name. Members of the Office work closely with faculty members, institutional leaders and staff of the University and Johns Hopkins Medicine, the Office of General Counsel and JHM Legal Office, and individuals outside the institution. We are seeking a Conflict of Interest Specialist who supports OPC in its role overseeing conflict of interest (COI), conflict of commitment, and industry interaction.
The Conflict of Interest Specialist is a member of the Outside Interests (OI) team and reports to the Director of Outside Interests. The OI team is responsible for the review of faculty disclosures, preparation, review, processing, and documentation of conflict-of-interest cases, supports the work of the Committee on Outside Interests, and implementation of education and compliance initiatives. Conflict of Interest specialists provide a high level of administrative and intellectual support.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Review and process disclosures of outside activities and conflicts of interest in research in accordance with institutional and office policy and procedures.
Identify data needed to review potential conflicts of interest and to ensure compliance with institutional policies and federal regulations.
Conduct compliance activities to ensure faculty understand and follow policies.
Work closely with Offices of Research Administration, Technology Ventures, and Human Subjects Research (IRB) for complex COI cases.
Conduct supplemental research of complex disclosures.
Provide e-mail and telephone support for faculty members regarding disclosures, policy questions and other requests as needed.
Explain OI policies and relevant regulations to faculty and staff.
Developing reports on outside activities for all department and division directors.
Developing and maintaining databases of relevant information, such as disclosures of physician payments by industry or other databases as necessary.
Working with the other members of the OI team to revise standard operating procedures for daily operations and to interpret policy.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Minimum of two years of progressively responsible related professional experience.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must possess a high level of organizational skills and time management.
Must possess strong analytical reasoning skills.
Must be able to function both independently and as a member of a team.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook required.

Master's Degree, or other advanced Degree.
Prior research experience, or experience in a research environment.
Experience in an academic medical center.
Knowledge of federal regulations on COI.
