At Stony Brook Medicine, our Patient Access Services team is responsible for completing varied, diverse and specialized duties to support the Revenue Cycle, Compliance and Patient Experience by accurately and efficiently completing tasks in areas of Registration, Financial Screening and Verification, and patient throughput.

The Off-site Patient Access Supervisor is responsible for overseeing various hospital outpatient registration locations. Manages staffing to support patient throughput and ensures registration and regulatory requirements are completed timely and accurately; ensuring positive patient experience. Conducts registrations audits and utilizes statistical reporting to monitor and adjust registration operations at multiple locations. Facilitates staff education and training. The supervisor adheres to strict rules of confidentiality, department, and organizational policies and procedures.
Duties of a Patient Access Supervisor may include the following but not limited to:
Serves as the go-to Patient Access Department contact person for the staff located at various Off-site Hospital Outpatient locations.
Fulfills a supervisory role to assign staff work efforts to meet operational needs for efficient patient arrival, registration, pre-registration and financial clearance.
Monitor worklists, queues and adjust registrar workflow ensuring department is completing registration, and financial clearance tasks.
Ensures staff receive "on the job training" specific to area of assignment. Responsible for maintaining workflow process documentation and supports staff knowledge and competency in department policy and procedures.
Prioritizes registration staff assignments and ensures work flow consistency on a continuous basis.
Monitors staff productivity and provides constructive feedback in real time to meet registration, compliance and financial objectives including: Accuracy, Eligibility, and Point of Service Collections.
Appropriately relays issues identified as requiring higher level intervention to Manager.
Responsible for maintaining and collecting statistical data, reports and completes special projects or assignments as requested. Identifies opportunities for process improvement to support revenue cycle goals.
Monitors registration screening time, eligibility verification and co-payment collection.
Train staff on new workflows, processes and procedures.
Facilitates revenue cycle integrity and positive patient experience, engaging staff to courteously and professionally obtain accurate and complete demographic and financial information in alignment with established processes.
Essential Position: This function/position has been designated as "essential." This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency ( staff shortages, increased census, inclement weather, and/or other emergencies), employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.
Associates Degree with two years working experience in Financial Services, Public health, or healthcare system.
In lieu of degree, five years of demonstrated excellence working in Financial Services, Public health, healthcare, or related industry which demonstrates comparable complex skill experience in payment collection, insurance reimbursement, or access services.
Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal and presentation skills are essential.
Candidate must demonstrate experience and expertise in speaking with customers and can work well with persons who are under stress.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; with demonstrated medium to high level competency in Access, Excel and PowerPoint, Word skills required.
Ability to collaborate and communicate well with multidisciplinary teams.
Supervisory experience in hospital patient access highly preferred.
Familiarity with medical insurance benefits demonstrated through experience with EMR computerized registration/Financial/IT systems.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
