The City of Tucson's Los Reales Sustainability Campus within the Environmental and General Services Department is seeking an experienced and motivated professional with an excellent work ethic and to administer, develop and oversee the daily landfill operations, capital improvement program, and personnel of the Los Reales Sustainability Campus. The Los Reales Sustainability campus serves as the regional landfill for the city of Tucson and Pima County is and processes approximately 2,200 tons of refuse daily, six (6) days a week.
Administers and manages the divisional activities and personnel of the Environmental & General Services Department.
Develops and implements solid waste collection and disposal programs, including the engineering and operation of the landfill
Organizes and directs daily operations of a division by performing administrative duties, overseeing operations, scale house programs, projects, and manages supervisory level personnel (two or more fulltime employees).
Formulates and implements division strategic plans and work activities to coordinate and synchronize with department directions and goals.
Implements and evaluates department policies, projects and programs.
Oversees the planning, implementation, direction and management of all functions and resources of the division to achieve the strategic objectives of the department and the City in an efficient and effective manner.
Assists with implementing the department vision through division activities and leads the division for maximum employee productivity and morale through hiring, disciplining, evaluating employee performance, investigating and resolving grievances and other human resources actions.
Develops and administers the division budget with staff assistance, including the equipment replacement program and capital operating budget.
Analyzes organizational and community needs, analyzes trends, reviews statistics and opportunities, and communicate information to department leadership of impending developments, and accomplishment of actions.
Develops strategic partnerships and contacts with community representatives, external agencies, and other organizations to develop a sense of relevant issues facing our community.
Champions the values of the organization through example and accountabilities.
Ensures that division operations conform with local, state and federal governmental regulations, worker safety and other applicable rules and requirements.
Facilitates solutions to problems facing the department.
Maintains professional knowledge through such means as attending seminars, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional organizations.
Directs the collection and disposal of solid waste materials for residential and commercial customers.
Conducts inspections by investigating grounds and facilities for compliance with regulations and handling complaints as needed.
Manages and maintains equipment utilization and needs, conducts education outreach, resolves highly complex or escalated customer problems.
Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 5 years in residential or commercial solid waste collection and disposal, of which 4 years are in a supervisory capacity.
"Supervisory" is defined as having supervised at least one (1) full-time employee.
Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) certification
Degree in Public Administration or Business Management
Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.)
Landfill management experience
Arizona Driving License
Driving Level: Secondary
License Type: Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver
