Johns Hopkins University's Division of Hematology is seeking a Research Technologist position available in a dynamic laboratory within the division. Major research areas include blood diseases with a focus on genetics and cell biology related to both benign and malignant conditions. The position will provide exposure and training in areas including human genetics, molecular biology, and cancer pathology. The position can be viewed as stepping-stone to further education or longer term depending on the candidate, with previous incumbents having continued to top medical and PhD programs. The ideal candidate will have education including cellular and molecular biology and/or genetics. Applicant must be a highly motivated, self-starter and have a bachelor's degree or higher, with preference for proven meticulous laboratory habits. Responsibilities will include characterization of new disease genes and pathways, molecular techniques to study disease mechanisms, clinical assessment of disease phenotypes, and de-identified patient-level data.
Techniques to be performed include but are not limited to: cell culture (including primary cells and/or stem cells), PCR, molecular cloning, and gel electrophoresis. In addition, projects will involve DNA and RNA isolation from patient tissue samples. Other responsibilities include: 1. Preparing and determining suitability of solutions and reagents following defined formulas and procedures; 2. Documenting and reporting all experimental results; 3. Maintaining and troubleshooting equipment, routine repairs or notifying service personnel when more complex problems occur; 4. Performing related general duties such as ordering supplies, general lab housekeeping, and maintaining safety records.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform tests, experiments, and/or procedures in close communication with supervising research scientists.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Requires a Bachelor's Degree.
Some familiarity with basic laboratory research techniques is necessary.
Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a research environment.
Education in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics and/or Molecular/Cellular Neuroscience or related degrees.
The ideal candidate will have education in molecular biology and genetics.
Previous experience in a laboratory environment is strongly preferred.
