This position is responsible for developing and implementing Environment, Health, and Safety management systems across BioLife United States plasma collection network (150+ locations with >7000 employees).Â Key aspects of this position include developing and executing a comprehensive EHS program strategy in line with Takeda Global EHS program objectives; proactively identifying significant EHS risks and creating associated mitigation plans; communicating EHS risks, EHS program strategies, and EHS program performance to BioLife senior management to ensure support and alignment; and developing programs to strengthen EHS competencies and personnel within the BioLife network.Â Directs all EHS activities to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.Â Acts as primary liaison for threat management and emergency preparedness response related issues impacting employee/guest safety.Â Is the primary liaison with EHS related external regulatory agencies for the BioLife US plasma collection network.Â Directs the job responsibilities of staff members.
Manage the development, planning and implementation of strong environmental, health and safety programs in alignment with legal, regulatory, corporate requirements and industry best practice.
Support business growth via management of permit revisions and new regulatory requirements; assess new projects/processes for impact on same and health & safety of employees.
Manage and oversee the occupational health program, including case management and appropriate interfaces with corporate, HR and legal.
Define, maintain and manage the emergency response procedures to assure preparedness and organized management of crisis situations.
Ensure continual improvement through implementation of the EHS management system, including facilitating risk assessments, setting targets and monitoring performance.
Champion and support resource conservation initiatives in cooperation with facilities and engineering.
Lead and direct the EHS team.
Develop a strong safety culture across the site, ensuring all incidents are reported, investigated and corrective actions implemented as appropriate.
Responsible for creating and managing the EHS budget and long-range plan.
DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS
Monitor, identify, and evaluate new environmental regulations which impact compliance with Federal, State, and/or Local regulations and develop effective action plans, in coordination with other key support functions, to address potential compliance gaps.
Lead effort to systematically identify and assess environmental aspects of BioLife activities, products, and services that can be controlled or influenced.Â Coordinate efforts with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies to mitigate the impact of significant environmental aspects.
Responsible for environmental permitting and reporting including, but not limited to, air, regulated medical waste, and storm-water discharges related to daily operations and construction.
Monitor, identify, and evaluate new safety regulations which impact compliance with Federal, State, and/or Local regulations and develop effective action plans, in coordination with other key support functions, to address potential compliance gaps.
Direct the overall development, evaluation, administration, and implementation of safety policies and programs.
Serves as a subject matter expert and provide technical direction as it relates to safety covered under OSHA regulations and/or state/local regulations.
Provides technical assistance to EHS team and BioLife network as it relates to safety and health risks associated with new equipment; safety work practices; and/or employee health.
Provides routine/non-routine problem solving (risk assessments) for the management of safety risks impacting employee health to the Shire plasma network and other groups as directed.
Directs EHS team and others in managing and minimizing risks to employees experiencing potentially work-related injuries/illnesses
Occupational Health and Wellness (30%)
Evaluate and act upon new workers' compensation regulations and/or company policies.
Administer the worker's compensation management system.
Directs, approves, and implements written health policies and wellness programs, including but not limited to occupations health and risk-based health promotion programs and in alignment with global employee well-being initiatives, to enhance employee safety and well-being.
Liaison between key stake holders in the management of injuries/illnesses which impact employee health/safety and workers' compensation compliance.
Directs and guides EHS team, management, and others regarding the pre-placement/post-job offer assessment process
Direct and provide technical assistance to EHS team to minimize risks to employees experiencing potentially work-related musculoskeletal symptoms.
Directs the annual flu vaccine program for the US BioLife network.
Threat Management (10%)
Direct the overall development, evaluation, and administration, and implementation of threat management policies and emergency response preparedness procedures for potential threats.
Lead effort to systematically identify and assess environmental aspects, products, and services that can be controlled or influenced.Â Coordinate efforts with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies to mitigate the impact of signficant environmental aspects.
Provide routine/non-routine problem solving for the management of significant threats impacting employee and guests.
Administrative and Policy Support (10%)
Proactively communicates with senior management and other groups regarding key environmental, health, and safety, and threat management aspects and impacts
Develops, analyzes, and monitors monthly metrics reports or other reports to assess compliance with established EHS aspects and impacts.
Encompasses an active role on project teams throughout the networks.
Other projects as assigned.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:Â
Essential: B.S. Degree in Environmental, Safety, or related field, plus M.S. degree in Environmental or Safety Engineering or Technology (5-7 years of advanced experience may be substituted)
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience
Must be conversant in EPS, OSHA, and DOT regulations
Must hold a registered professional certification in the environmental or safety field (i.e. CSP, or CIH, PE)
Desired: Prior experience working with leaders in a large multi-site/matrix organization
Travel up to 20% may be required
