The Department of Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) is one of six departments in the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, supporting a variety of research initiatives and educational programs. EHS has several different graduate programs, including MPH, MS, and PhD programs, and supports >130 faculty and staff members in a variety of research initiatives. EHS also houses the growing SHARP (Skills for Health and Research Professionals) Training Program, which brings together different research professionals from around the country for intensive skills-based workshops. The SHARP Program is quickly growing, now supporting 800+ attendees each summer and winter from around the country, 70+ instructors, and training locations in both NYC and on the west coast in Portland, Oregon.
This position will be responsible for marketing and communication in EHS, serving as the main contact and coordinator for key internal and external communication and marketing needs for the EHS Department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Serve as the day-to-day main contact and coordinator for communication and marketing needs in EHS
Strategically plan, identify, and implement new marketing and communication opportunities internally and externally for EHS
Develop cohesive communication plan for EHS ??? work with all Center/group communicators to review communication methods, timeline, products, etc. as well as Mailman Communications Office for cross-channel promotion and paid advertising.
Develop and formalize a recruitment plan for degree seeking students to generate new leads using different advertising platforms and standardizing communication workflow and materials for prospective and enrolled students.
Serve as the EHS liaison with the School???s Communications Office to align department resources with School policies and best practices.
Serve as the main contact within EHS for communication needs.
Work closely with the SHARP Program Director in the outreach and marketing logistics for 20+ unique SHARP Trainings (2???3-day workshops) to ensure adherence to planning timeline and success of each event.
Work with Mailman Communications office on cohesive plan and follow through for course graphics, social and flyer posting, and paid and unpaid advertising opportunities. Assess outcomes and recommend and implement changes based on outcomes.
Use a variety of platforms for SHARPS attendee communication, registration management, documentation management, and evaluation compilation.
Communicate professionally in an accurate and timely manner with various offices and individuals that play a role in training and education (e.g., instructors, teaching assistants, Security, Communications Office, AV, catering, etc.).
Conduct advertisement and market research on best outlets to share specific trainings and program details as a whole; propose plan to integrate and pursue best avenues.
Develop new tailored contact lists and Mailchimp and mail merge emails to prospective audiences and enrolled attendees.
Create advertisement packages for trainings (flyers, social media language, Powerpoint ad slide, etc.), including updating webpages and registration sites for new and existing trainings

Bachelor???s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience required.
Some marketing or outreach experience in public health education and/or research is required. Strong communication skills and customer experience required. Must be very well organized and attentive to detail. Must be able to work flexible hours when needed, including some evenings and weekends.
Demonstrated ability in guest relations and event management, with proven record of working effectively with diverse constituencies.
Strong written and oral communication skills and excellent organizational skills with ability to handle high-volume workload, manage concurrent projects, meet deadlines, and work as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, manage competing priorities, and work productively when under deadline and with minimal supervision.
