The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a Research Program Coordinator who will coordinate the administrative and scientific implementation of a small number of research studies under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigators (initial effort division between Principal Investigators planned for 50%/50%). Work closely with the Principal Investigators though much of the day-to-day work will be independent and self-directed.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepare protocols for IRB approval and use the JHU Clinical Research Management System (CRMS) to design clinical studies.
Recruit, train, and oversee research assistants, technicians, and/or students as needed.
Provide in-service education and training for faculty, residents, and nursing staff concerning study rationale and conduct if needed.
Maintain updated human subjects research certification and training. Identify eligible study participants for recruitment from JH Hospital and satellite locations as applicable and ensure informed consent is obtained at the time of recruitment.
Coordinate study visits and compensation for study participants when indicated, ensuring accuracy of record-keeping and adherence to study protocol(s).
Collect data from study participants at JHU while controlling data quality and maintaining research integrity.
Receive samples (e.g. ocular fluids, blood) collected from study participants when applicable and ensure rigorous de-identification, storage, record-keeping, and data management.
Apply standard statistical tests to collected data both as part of planned analyses and to detect and help solve logistical and technical problems.
Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and efficiency to manage the independent research projects of the Principal Investigators effectively and communicate project progress to Principal Investigators regularly.
Search and update current literature files related to the planned and ongoing projects.
Help develop new grant proposals for competitive funding.
Contribute to preparation of presentations and manuscripts for publication.
Assist with oversight of budget expenditures for the studies in question.
Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Any prior experience with Ophthalmology via clinical care or research preferred, but not required.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience with clinical research, IRB protocols, data management (REDCap, CRMS, Python, SQL), and statistics (Stata) preferred.
May need to travel to Johns Hopkins clinic locations in Maryland (e.g. Green Spring Station) as needed for patient recruitment, though most duties based at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
