The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Wichita, Kansas is currently recruiting for a Registered Nurse to work in the Emergency Department and as an Employee Health and Traveling Veteran Coordinator. The Emergency Room consists of 9 ER beds and 2 Fast Track beds, along with 2 Triage rooms. The unit is open 24 hours a day/7 days a week. The nurse in the emergency room is expected to be proficient in all areas of caring for critically ill patients. The department is a fast-paced area that provides care for patients with multiple, complex co-morbidities, both surgical and medical. Each area requires excellent assessment skills and critical thinking ability. Must be able to adapt to rapidly changing conditions of patients and communicate effectively with other healthcare providers. The staff nurse interprets the philosophy and goals of Nursing to others in the work setting; functions within established guidelines and demonstrates the ability to work effectively and develop therapeutic relationships with patients, their families and other professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care. The Employee Occupational Health Service registered nurse supports the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) mission through the use of data-driven, evidence-based principles of occupational health to maintain and advance a productive, healthy, safe, and agile workforce through policy, assessment, consultation and assurance. Employee Occupational Health Service nurse provides a comprehensive, holistic, occupational health, safety, and wellness program for employees supporting the values, vision, and mission of VHA, recognizing that our health care professionals are our most important resource. The nurse collaborates with other hospital programs and departments to promote a healthy, productive workforce. The traveling Veteran Coordinator (TVC) provides care to the traveling Veterans who clearly have a single principal residence and whose health care needs do not require complicated care management. Similarly, he/she may be required to address needs of patients who require only episodic care while traveling. The TVC is a Registered Nurse or Licensed Independent Practitioner who coordinates necessary or ongoing outpatient care for Veterans traveling out of their preferred facility area. The RN follows national directives to ensure compliance with VHA DIRECTIVE 1521.
