The Ralph O'Connor Sustainable Energy Institute (ROSEI) is seeking a Media Coordinator (MC) (Communications Specialist) to develop and coordinate all internal and external digital and print media communications for the Institute. The MC is responsible for establishing branding and public relations posture, as well as communicating with and disseminating information to industry, sponsors, faculty, students and the public. She/he is responsible for supporting programs to foster positive positioning and proactive visibility of the ROSEI brand in the US and the world, by working with internal partners and clients as well as media partners.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Creates content from ROSEI faculty and events, gathers related content from the university and from general sources and develops and implements a coherent strategy for delivering the content to industry, sponsors, faculty, students and the public.
Responsible for establishing branding and public relations posture, as well as communicating with and disseminating information for ROSEI.
Responsible for supporting programs to foster positive positioning and proactive visibility of the ROSEI brand in the US and the world, by working with internal partners and clients as well as media partners.
Uses backend software to update the related websites for ROSEI and related websites (i.e. course and conference sites). This includes maintaining links to social networking sites and University-wide resources for administration, information, purchasing, safety, and training.
Expected to be comfortable with developing content and then uploading and disseminating the content to modern websites (using e.g. WordPress), social media, etc.
Serve as a technical assistant in developing media projects associated with grant writing, education, outreach, and grant research activities of ROSEI.
Stay current with technology and media trends and suggest new related activities.
Be in charge of evaluations of the effectiveness of all media campaigns, and suggesting strategy changes to the institute's communications efforts.
The MC is the point of contact to the public and the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE), responding to all inquiries in a timely manner and liaising with the WSE communications office.
Promotional Material Preparation:
Assists in writing, editing and placing promotional materials for print, broadcast and digital media, including feature stories, columns, pitches and news releases, in coordination with WSE Communications staff.
Assists on various newsletters; including developing story ideas, editing and working with WSE Communications staff.
Media Outlet/Database Management:
Maintains, updates and organizes all media databases
Seeks new media outlets that are subject/location/program-specific in order to further promote ROSEI, ROSEI partners, faculty expertise and student honors.
Website Management/Social Media:
Assesses, reviews and posts all materials for news and publications on the Institute websites.
Researches and assesses productivity of Web-based activities.
Posts Institute news through appropriate website and social media: Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
Digital Material Preparation:
Prepares postings of digital promotional materials (photos, stories, etc.) in cooperation with Web design staff.
Assists in the coordination of in-house digital photography.
Works with consultants on special editing, advertising projects.
Works with graphics and places ads for the Institute.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's degree in related field.
Two years related experience.
Advanced degree may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Two years related work experience in digital media marketing communications, preferably with experience in higher education communications.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate with a wide range of constituents on diverse, complex, and often technical topics.
Experience in writing for the web.
Experience in information architecture, web strategy fundamentals, web design and SEO.
Proven facility with content management systems, including WordPress, and ability to train others in fundamentals of CMS.
Design and video skills desirable.
Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships and identify, assess, and meet diverse client needs.
Ability to organize workflow, prioritize and manage multiple projects with minimal direction, meet deadlines, think critically and creatively, and exercise sound judgment.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
