The Department of Surgery is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine and is comprised of 103 faculty members, 18 physicians employed on MSP agreements, 31 doctors employed by the VA or other facilities, 104 accredited and non-accredited trainees and 161 career staff. Activities are organized in 7 sub-specialty divisions. Department activities span 5 major institutions including three medical centers and cover all aspects of the teaching, research, clinical and service missions of the University. The Division of Otolaryngology / Head & Neck Surgery is a key component.
Under close supervision, the individual will assist in performing experiments learning to make technical determinations and/or observations related to research projects. Conduct limited variety of non-standard procedures. Assist in coordination of all research activities in the lab including finding appropriate protocols and regulations for the experiments. Assist in organizing and assisting lab manager in keeping records of lab results. Assist with maintaining laboratory environmental health and safety activities.
Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Knowledge of work in quantitative field (such as training or graduation from college with major in computer science, data science, information system management, engineering, physical science, neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science) or equivalent combination of education or experience
Demonstrated good judgement and decision making; problem-solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance trough application configuration and programming techniques.
Demonstrated skill in accurate record-keeping and ability to organize, analyze, and complete project accurately, efficiently and with high level of attention to detail.
Ability to work in a team environment, establishing and maintaining good working relationships with P.I., supervisor, postdoctoral scholars, and other members of the research group.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Skilled in proofreading and editing. Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Knowledge of solubility, general laboratory techniques, and scientific calculations sufficient to prepare and maintain chemical stocks; such as dilutions, buffers, and solutions.
Knowledge and experience in biological sciences or related field.
Ability to learn new procedures and techniques and adapt standard methods to new situations.
