Johns Hopkins Engineering for Professionals (EP) is seeking a Multimedia Services Manager to serve in its Center for Digital and Media Initiatives. EP is the division of the Whiting School of Engineering that serves online and part-time students across 22 engineering and applied science master's degree and certificate programs.
The Multimedia Services Manager will manage the production and delivery of content, as well as relevant multimedia infrastructure. Leading a team of multimedia producers and learning space designers, the Multimedia Services Manager will partner with internal teams to meet the needs of our clients. Our services include video production, learning space design and implementation, live streaming, and emergent, immersive digital media (e.g., AR/MR/VR/XR). Our clients include faculty, marketing and communications staff, department administration, instructional designers and technologists, among others. We maintain technology in dozens of classrooms and studios across two campuses: Homewood and the Applied Physics Laboratory.
Our selected candidate must have a proven track record of keeping numerous, rapidly changing digital projects and people working toward a common organizational goal and be proficient in balancing the needs of multiple audiences. We are seeking a person with expert communication skills and broad experience in multimedia who is able to gather and solicit feedback from both technical and creative teams, and translate that feedback into a product vision.
The Multimedia Services Manager is a strong collaborator and results-driven project manager. Our ideal candidate will be a leader in immersive media on the team, working with an experienced media group, as well as several contractors and part-time staff. A background in design or product management at a digital agency or university is especially helpful. This position reports to the Director of the Center for Digital and Media Initiatives.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Collaboration & Coordination (25%)
Collaborate and coordinate with a diverse group of stakeholders, including the Center for Learning Design, Whiting School of Engineering IT, Marketing and Communications, and the Associate Dean of Engineering for Professionals, among others.
Engage closely and routinely with the internal design, IT, and AV teams to help determine the best classroom AV implementation while balancing time-to-market needs.
Partner with cross-functional teams and external partners to design, build, launch innovative course production and delivery studios.
Define and proactively monitor key engagement metrics to support and inform product decisions and clearly communicate these to stakeholders.
Engage in active problem solving with the communications, technology, and monitoring teams to determine trends and root causes.
Collaborate with WSE leadership and faculty to pilot innovative digital media that advances learning in our programs.
Provide analysis and background which enables high-level decision makers of potential product tradeoff decisions taking into consideration business opportunities, user experience, press demands, level of effort for internal teams and vendors, and the complexity of these solutions.
Partner with similar teams across the university to offer scalable, cost-effective approaches to the integration and use of digital media at WSE.
Media Production (20%)
Manage a product roadmap that may include complex, multi-division initiatives.
Assist with the planning, production, and distribution of over a thousand videos each year.
Support the scoping and definition of new content, resources, visualizations, analysis, and other products based on user needs and the availability of reliable data, prevailing research, relevance to the public, and use cases.
Participate in planning sessions with instructional designers, multimedia producers, learning space designers, and faculty.
Identify opportunities to improve the product and manage KPIs.
Develop (or partner to develop) and effectively integrate immersive media into the student and faculty experience.
Learning Space Design & Event Production (25%)
Following a user-center approach, design and update clasrooms and studios across two campuses to enable high-quality course development and delivery.
Assist a team of media producers and insturctional technologists in the planning and delivery of live events both completely remote and onsite.
Digital Media Initiatives (30%)
Partner with leadership and faculty to integrate AR/MR/VR/XR into courses and events according to industry best practices and informed by research.
Provide advisory services and implementation support to internal marketing and academic affairs teams on approaches to optimizing video delivery for specific audiences.
Bachelor's degree required.
Five years related technology and supervisory experience
Master's degree preferred.
At least four years of experience in managing a digital product, AV, or multimedia team.
Experience managing media products with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, and project management counterparts to deliver high quality products.
Experience with common broadcast production equipment (e.g., network switchers) and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, NDI).
Experience designing immersive virtual environments with Unity.
Experience with interactive video quizzes and learning paths in video.
Experience tracking and analyzing video engagement.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience with multimedia production, lighting, audio engineering & video editing.
Experience utilizing video production equipment (cameras, lights, audio equipment) and post production software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Adobe Audition, Adobe Photoshop).
Experience designing and developing AR/VR projects for clients.
Portfolio with relevant work examples required.
Broad, cross-disciplinary understanding and approach to digital media.
Ability to develop and communicate a results-driven technical plan.
Demonstrated ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, manage tradeoffs and evaluate opportunistic new ideas with internal and external stakeholders.
