The Iowa City Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VA), is seeking an Epidemiologist-Infectious Disease Physician in the Medicine Service Line, Specialty Medicine/Epidemiology. Position will be 6/8ths VA and 2/8ths appointment with the University of Iowa. *The listed salary range is based on full-time status and will be prorated for 6/8 VA. Specific Duties include, but are not limited to: Perform comprehensive surveillance for healthcare-associated infections and epidemiologically significant organisms. Help identify and investigate clusters or outbreaks of infection. Analyze procedure and device-associated infections. Apply data analytics to drive process improvement. Create evidence-based interventions to prevent healthcare-associated infections. Evaluate methods and technologies to reduce transmission of pathogens within the institution. Create and maintain appropriate infection control policies, procedures and programs designed to meet the goals and objectives of the Infection Prevention Program. Partner with Chief, Quality, Safety and Value (QSV) to oversee the work and performance of infection control staff who are based in QSV. Develop and maintain educational programs regarding infection control for all hospital employees, physicians, and trainees. Evaluate patient care practices for effectiveness and application to Infection Prevention. Communicate the needs and plans of the Infection Prevention Program to staff of patient care units as well as clinical and other services. Provide consultation to health care providers in the assessment and management of patients and employees with communicable diseases. Provide input for the content and scope of occupational health and safety programs related to infection control and prevention. Advise senior leadership on issues related to reduction of infection risks and regulatory requirements Serve as resource person to hospital staff. Administer ongoing programs and initiatives for continuous quality assessment, quality improvement, and infection risk reduction (e.g. hand hygiene promotion and monitoring). Attend on the inpatient ID consult service. Attend in VA outpatient ID clinics and review ID E-consults as assigned. Provide clinical supervision and teaching of UNM ID Fellows, residents, and other trainees and students. Provide medical student teaching as assigned. Employ creativity and innovation in problem solving. Serve on required VA facility committees.
