The Research Compliance Administrator will report to the Chief Research Policy Officer and will administratively support the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) activities. The Research Compliance Administrator is responsible for activities that ensure Institutional compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding research. The primary area of responsibility for this position consists of IACUC administration. Additional compliance responsibilities involve review of Conflicts of Interest (COI), support of Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR), Human Subject Research (IRB), Biosafety (IBC), the Human Embryo and Stem Cell Committee (ESCRO), the Radiation Safety Committee, and research misconduct, particularly as these areas relate to the conduct of federally funded research and intersect with animal subjects research at Caltech.
Responsible for coordination, preparation, and timely submission of regulatory reports, license renewals, and accreditation documentation for the animal subjects program at Caltech.
Receives and coordinates handling of IACUC protocols from submission through review, approval, and post approval monitoring. Requires interface with investigators as well as Committee members.
Coordinates and attends all IACUC meetings and inspections; performs initial review, preparation, and distribution of all meeting materials; including meeting agendas, minutes, SOPs, and Committee communications with investigators.
Provides administrative oversight over coordination of the Lab Animal Occupational Health Program.
Maintains IACUC records, monitors and administers IACUC email, monitors and maintains the IACUC webpages, and works with the information technology group to maintain and improve the Caltech electronic protocol system.
Coordinates and documents required training for the IACUC.
Assists the Chief Research Policy Officer/Institutional Official with compliance requirements as needed.
Provides overall administrative support to the Chief Research Policy Officer and the IACUC Chair as needed.
Must be independent, detail-oriented, reliable, with excellent problem solving and decision making skills.
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to comfortably interact with various levels of management and faculty.
Proven strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and oversee multiple projects and assignments effectively with minimal supervision.
Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft 365 and use of protocol databases.
Regulatory compliance administration experience; experience as an IACUC administrator is desired.
Comfortable with website and protocol database management, and familiarity with CITI online training.
Extensive knowledge of and proven experience with implementing federal and industry regulations that govern use of animals in research.
Current working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and institutional policy and procedures to ensure the IACUC is in compliance with applicable mandates.
Familiarity and/or experience with the AAALAC accreditation process.
Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA).
