As an EHS Sr Manager-FMSD, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Developing and driving the FMSD EHS strategic direction and corresponding action plans to achieve sustained solutions - by identifying, analyzing, and monitoring EHS risk profiles, compliance obligations, key performance indicators, and gaps/improvement opportunities of individual sites and division-wide operations
Leading site EHS managers to ensure sites understand their customized EHS program/compliance requirements and improvement project deliverables - as defined through the division EHS strategic plan, internal policies, standards and programs, and external permit and regulatory compliance obligations - and successfully and sustainably meeting those requirements and deliverables
Assuring the effective implementation of Area and/or division-wide EHS programs, including but not limited to Management of Change, incident investigation and follow-up, the 3M EHS Management Standard elements, and EHS auditing (including 3rd party compliance audits, internal management system audits, and internal self-audits)
Managing a team of more than (40) FMSD-wide EHS subject matter experts, Site EHS leaders and their staff - including both core supervisory duties such as objective setting, coaching, professional development, and performance reviews; and assuring a culture of respect, trust, collaboration, attention to detail, and outcome-based achievement within the organization
Partnering with the FMSD Environmental Sr. Manager, who has primary responsibility for environmental compliance at the FMSD chemical manufacturing facilities, to ensure a seamless leadership team with the FMSD Vice President of USAC Plant Operations and site leaders to collaboratively advance the EHS performance outcomes of the division
Demonstrating a passion for leading change, the application of critical inquiry skills to coach and direct, and an outcome-based performance excellence achievement mindset
The person hired for the position of EHS Sr Manager-FMSD will provide leadership and strategic direction for environment, health, safety (EHS) performance excellence and regulatory compliance at 3M FMSD chemical and film manufacturing sites in the United States. This position requires a leader with proven experience in process safety management, worker safety, strengthening EHS culture across an organization, environmental compliance achievement, team and personnel leadership, project management execution, and cross-functional collaboration with key stakeholders. The individual selected will represent FMSD on global 3M EHS teams and initiatives, and actively engage with other Business EHS Managers as part of the USAC EHS Leadership Team by providing insights and solutions that advance our standard work and EHS performance improvement. This position reports to the USAC/North America EHS Director, who reports to the EHS Sr Vice President with global responsibilities. EHS staff across 3M are vertically integrated in one organization.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Seven (7) combined years of environment, health, safety and/or manufacturing leadership experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Three (3) combined years supervisory and/or management experience
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or an EHS related discipline from an accredited institution
Direct experience working at chemical, film, or oil and gas manufacturing operating facilities in the United States
Expert knowledge/experience (>10 years) in one or more EHS professional discipline (e.g. worker safety, process safety, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance) or manufacturing leadership role (site leader or site EHS leader)
Strong critical inquiry and project management skills, as demonstrated by multi-year program leadership experience and/or a project management certification
Experience with Lean and/or Six Sigma principles and practices, including serving as a Master Black Belt, Black Belt, or Green Belt (or equivalent)
Certification(s) that include: Certified Safety Professional (CSP(r)), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Associate Safety Professional (ASP(r)), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM(r)), Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) or related certification/certification
Travel: May include up to 35% domestic
