Our laboratory investigates the mechanisms of sound perception and how defects in this process cause hearing loss. We use a wide spectrum of techniques (molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, mouse genetics, histology, imaging, omics studies) to study sensory epithelia of the inner ear and the neurons that transmit sound information from the ear to the brain. We also develop gene transfer methods for the inner ear to treat genetic forms of hearing loss.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is interested to join our team (https://neuroscience.jhu.edu/research/faculty/129) to work on the analysis of the auditory system in mice. The Research technologist will participate in the development of gene transfer methods for the inner ear and the analysis of inner ear tissue. The technologist will be working in a team that includes other technicians, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform mouse surgery and analysis of tissues. Training will be provided.
Assist with mouse breeding and genotyping.
Assist laboratory members with experiments.
Evaluate and interpret results from experiments.
Perform other various laboratory tasks as requested.
Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or related field.
Some related post-undergraduate work experience with histological techniques, molecular techniques or imaging.
