The Research Technologist will design, perform, analyze and report on experiments that test a model, hypothesis or question in a specific area of biomedical research such as (but not limited to) biophysics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, cell biology, cognition, disease mechanisms, genetics, immunology, metabolism, microbiology, molecular biology, neuroscience, physiology, tissue engineering or virology.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include basic research work appropriate to the lab (e.g., molecular biology, cell culture, microscopy, model organisms) plus related tasks and intellectual activities in the lab, and participation in PREP activities including but not limited to chalk-talks, project meetings and workshops.
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field.
Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understanding of basic experimental design and laboratory safety; organizational skills; willingness to learn and master new experimental methods and strategies; excellent communication skills, willingness to ask questions, and positive attitude.
Physical requirements for the job:
The work environment may include temperature extremes such as cold-rooms (4-8oC), and/or biohazardous conditions such as the risk of fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals and/or safety level 2 or higher biological agents and/or reagents which mandate special attention to safety considerations.
Performing the duties outlined for this position requires precise measures of quantity and quality; near vision to see objects clearly within 20 inches; the ability to move about and sit in a normal seated position for extended periods of time; occasionally lifting and/or carrying objects weighing 10 lbs. or less and occasionally pushing and/or, pulling objects weighing 30 lbs. or less; handling by seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with the hands; finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers, for example, using a keyboard, pipette, pipette aid, and opening/closing small snap-cap and screw-cap tubes.
