Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Technician B to join our team in a full time position to work within  the Division of Child and Adolescent Health. Columbia University Medical Center's Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. The Dumitriu Laboratory at Columbia University Medical Center is looking for highly motivated technician to support and facilitate the scientific research projects of the team. The laboratory investigates the neurobiological basis of resilience in a rodent model of depression. The laboratory research activities are focused on revealing the functional and structural connectivity patterns that differ in stress-susceptible versus stress-resilient.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for carrying out experimental procedures and working with senior lab members to optimize behavioral animal protocols and immunohistochemical preparation used in the lab.
• Work with team members to develop and optimize new lab assays
• Carry out requested sample processing and assays
• Run complex animal behavioral assay with other lab members
• Follow up on experiments by organizing, processing, and reporting the results to the direct supervisor
• Assist the Lab Manager with identifying supplies to be ordered and maintain sample inventories with detailed information on sample availability
• Assist the Lab Manager in chemical inventories and storage according to EHS standards and support the cleanliness of lab
• Assist with the following imaging and data analyses. 
• Any other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.

• The ideal candidate must possess a positive and collaborative attitude as well as the ability to work independently and adapt to a diverse and dynamic team environment.  Strong organizational skills, problem solving attitude and critical thinking is expected.
