The Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) Research laboratory, for more than 40 years the laboratory has been funded by the NIH. We work with large animal surgical models developing new ways to improve patients lives through new techniques and device development in artificial organs, organ procurement, and preservation. The laboratory is a dynamic, fun loving, educational environment. We are seeking talented individuals with a degree in the fields of Biology, Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, or similar field, ideally with expertise in large animal anesthesia and post-operative care to work in our laboratory located in Ann Arbor, MI. - Perform various bleeding techniques, perform anesthesia/sedation. Extensive training is provided; candidates need to be comfortable working with large animals in a laboratory setting.
- Collect samples (tissue, blood, urine), perform husbandry tasks on sheep, swine, and rabbits.
- Monitor the health and wellbeing of pre and post-surgical animals in an ICU setting
- Identify signs of illness in large animals and respond accordingly
- Perform basic daily care of animals in an ICU setting.
- Compliance with regulatory agencies, USDA, IACUC, EHS
- Assist with day to day administrative tasks, such as tracking training, developing documents etc.
- Captures a broad range of data utilizing the ECLS lab system and manually records data
- Assist with training and education of undergraduate/graduate students on complex surgical procedures under sedation and/or anesthesia.
- Assist in development and design of research projects and implement experimental plans, as designed.
Attend weekly meetings/conferences. - 1 - 3 years of related experience.
- Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position.
- Personnel with these experiences will be preferred candidates: monitoring large animal anesthesia (preferably sheep or pig), ICU management, experience with CPB, or artificial devices.

- Ability to work in fast passed, physical, hands on environment, stand for long periods of time and lift a minimum of 50lbs.
- Previous work experience with large livestock type animals, preference given to candidates with surgical or anesthesia experience in these animals.
- Bachelor degree in any Life Sciences including Biology, Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Associate degree in Veterinary Technology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education.
- Knowledge of anesthesia or experience performing anesthesia in animals or humans.
- Familiarity with physiology and/or patient post-operative care highly preferred but not required.
- Experience writing and following SOPs.
- Ability to work nights and weekends is required approximately 20 hours per week.
