The Human Resources Manager 2 is a professional level position that provides oversight of the Human Resources operational function within the School of Dentistry (350+ employees). The SOD HR Manager provides subject matter expertise as it relates to SOD human resources functions, practices, policies and process. This position implements and maintains processes that support OHSU best practices and strategizes with leadership to resolve HR related issues.
The SOD HR Manager coordinates with the HR Business Partner to ensure timely response to HR issues. This position reports both to the School of Dentistry senior leadership and the Director of HR for Research and Academics, serving as the liaison with central HR, Provost office, other OHSU units, to ensure continuity of policy interpretation and timely procedure implementation.
Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, labor relations or related field, or equivalent combination of education, experience and training
Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible administrative experience in human resources
Experience interviewing, recruiting and wage offers for academic or medical positions
Experience in working with managers to strategize employment needs
Experience working on search committees and best practices around interviewing andselection
Experience managing employees, best practices with performance evaluations and coaching for success
Knowledge of recruitment strategies, sourcing, and effective advertising
Knowledge of labor laws
Knowledge of HR records retention policies and best practices
Knowledge of occupational health compliance initiatives
Ability to provide coaching, mentoring, or consulting to managers and employees to resolve interpersonal conflicts
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds as well as the ability to effectively diffuse upset or angry persons
Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite
Professional and attentive customer service skills, both in person and via phone
Ability to exercise good judgment
Ability to work independently and with minimal direction
Critical thinking skills
Experience working in a confidential environment both independently and with teams
Ability to efficiently and effectively multi-task and manage many competing demands
A sense of urgency, attention to detail, and exceptional organizational skills a must
Working knowledge of state and federal employment laws and knowledge of collective bargaining agreements
Ability to speak in front of a group
Prior management experience
OHSU Human Resources experience
Previous experience in a union environment
Previous experience in an academic setting
PHR/SPHR or SHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP or other HR Certification
Working conditions: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm, some early mornings and evenings required. Position is mainly remote. Occasional on campus activities maybe requested. On campus includes office, classroom, lab and clinical environment.
Physical demands and equipment usage: Ability to sit or stand at a computer for up to four hours a day. Ability to attend meetings remotely and throughout campus and satellite campuses as needed, including use of the aerial tram.
