Electrical Engineer, Analog/RF, Beam Instrumentation
Brookhaven National Laboratory
Why Work at BNL? Organizational Overview The mission of the Collider-Accelerator Department (C-AD) is to operate, maintain, improve, and upgrade the suite of electron, proton, and heavy ion accelerators used to carry out a program of accelerator-based experiments at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). To support this program, the C-AD must design, fabricate, assemble, test, install, and operate unique research equipment to generate, transport, transfer, accelerate, focus, track, collide, and absorb high intensity particle beams up to energies of 250 GeV. This includes a combination of custom designed and fabricated devices and vendor produced components developed by a collaboration of the C-AD scientific, engineering, and technical staff. The C-AD supports an international user community of over 1,500 scientists. The C-AD performs all these functions in an environmentally-responsible and safe manner, under a rigorous conduct of operations approach. Position Description If you are energetic and interested in an exciting career developing cutting edge beam instrumentation systems in support of the existing collider-accelerator facility and the future electron-ion collider (EIC) to be constructed at Brookhaven over the next ten years, then this is the job for you. The Collider Accelerator Department has an opening for an Electrical Engineer in the Instrumentation Group to design, develop, integrate, commission and support the operation of complex beam instrumentation systems. In this position the candidate will contribute to the development of complete system solutions to satisfy the physics and operational needs of these complicated machines. Developments may include analog and digital electronic designs, schematic and PCB layouts, feedback control systems, ADCs (Analog-Digital Converter), DACs (Digital-Analog Converter), simulations, RF front end designs, analog and digital filters, gate arrays, VHDL coding, software development and documentation. The candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary personnel, including accelerator physicists, operators, technicians and other engineers. This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community. If you possess solid electronic engineering skills and you have a thirst for solving difficult engineering problems, we would be happy to train you in the exciting field of accelerators.
