INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE PROGRAM (IHP) ASSISTANT OFFICER , Environment, Health and Safety Office (EHS) , to support Institute academic and business objectives with due consideration of occupational health and safety laws, federal and state regulations, and good practices. Will function as an integral member of a multidisciplinary EHS office that serves the entire MIT community. As skills develop, may work in EHS program areas outside main area of expertise. Responsibilities include providing EHS support to departments, labs, and centers (DLCs) as the lead contact or EHS team member; providing industrial hygiene (IH) support as IH contact to assigned DLCs on experimental design and development; conducting area and/or personal noise surveys; conducting indoor air quality investigations for temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, VOCs, mold and other potential contaminants; developing and/or revising trainings; performing ergonomic assessments and group trainings; assisting with campus drinking water sampling program; and participating in on-call rotational system providing routine and off-hours support as necessary and in day-call rotation to provide immediate response to IH-related issues.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's degree in an EHS or related discipline (e.g., engineering, physical or biological sciences, chemistry); three years' relevant experience; specific industrial hygiene knowledge and general familiarity with overall EHS practices (e.g. biosafety, environmental management, safety, radiation protection); effective active listening, mediation, and written and oral communication skills; basic computer and database skills; strong technical skills and ability to perform hazard assessments and make recommendations regarding appropriate engineering controls (e.g., exhaust ventilation) and personal protective equipment; ability to develop and implement well-integrated EHS programs within the workplace; ability to influence, collaborate, manage multiple projects, and prioritize heavy workload and client needs.
