![]() Academic Coordinator, Associate Director for Community Engagement This highly independent, full time, career position is located within the Community Engagement Core (CEC) at the Environmental Health Sciences Core Center (EHSC).The Environmental Health Sciences Core Center at UC Davis, one of more than 20 NIEHS-funded Core Centers across the country, advances scientific research; fosters interdisciplinary collaborations; promotes community engagement; facilitates translation of research; and provides support and mentoring to new EHS researchers. EHSC has seventy-one members, spanning seven colleges/schools at UC Davis and engages stakeholders across California with an emphasis on the San Joaquin/Central Valley and areas affected by wildfires. EHSC is comprised of: Exposure Core; Integrated Health Sciences Facility Core; Community Engagement Core; Pilot Projects Program and; an Administrative Core. The Community Engagement Core (CEC) facilitates bi-directional exchange of information and resources between the EHSC and community members, decision makers, public health professionals, and educators. This includes translating and disseminating Center research results into information that can be used to protect and improve public health, as well as aligning the center's activities with the needs and interests of communities facing high concentrations of environmental hazards and social vulnerability. Position Background Academic Coordinators are appointees who administer academic programs that provide service closely related to the teaching or research mission of the University. This service may be provided to academic departments, to organized research units, to students, or to the general public. Determination of the appropriate level for an appointment for an Academic Coordinator shall take into consideration such factors as program scope and complexity. The duties of an Academic Coordinator are primarily administrative. Individuals in an Academic Coordinator title who are assigned research or instructional duties are required to hold a dual title. The Community Engagement Core Associate Director for Engagement reports and collaborates with the CEC faculty co-directors in setting, implementing, assessing, and adapting the strategic objectives for the CEC. The ADE will serve in a leadership role to develop, administer, and evaluate programs closely related to environmental health research and engagement at the university. The ADE will lead the assessment of multiple constituency needs; evaluation of academic program activities and functions; communication and cooperation with faculty in its program areas; development of interdisciplinary collaborations; and initiation of programs that develop new strategic directions. The ADE will build the CEC as a valuable resource for community-based organizations and researchers and establish clear pathways to research collaboration and research-to-policy translation. It is expected that EHSC's engagement activities will have regional, statewide, and national reach, and that EHSC will serve as a national model on integration of community engagement into environmental health research and education. The ADE will have substantial involvement in fundraising and the oversight of programmatic funds. This will include the creation of new engagement programs, and the development of new positions, recruitment, and management of staff. The ADE will work with significant independence and under the generation supervision of the CEC Faculty Co-directors in all of these activities.
