Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Researcher III for the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI). The position reports to the Executive Director of Laboratory and Administration at EOHSI. The Laboratory Researcher III is responsible for the quantitative analysis of targeted organic analyses in environmental and biological samples using multiple MS platforms (e.g. ion trap, triple quad, Orbi and ToF).
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs analysis without direct supervision having an excellent understanding of chromatographic and MS technology as well as interpreting data and troubleshooting instrumental diﬃculties.
Adapts an existing method from the literature or develop and new method.
Develops, documents and publishes (where appropriate) new analytical methods.
Provides general instrument maintenance, QC documentation, maintenance and other general laboratory functions
Organizes sample management, sample tracking and organization.
Trains/supervises students and other new users of core facility instrumentation.
Coordinates installation of new instrumentation, equipment, and software.
Works in concordance with all group members to ensure a coordinated working environment.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have understanding of scientiﬁc empirical procedures
Detailed knowledge of GC/MS analytical techniques and instrumentation
Required to provide oversight in operation, analysis as well as training of students, early career faculty, other technicians, and post-doctoral researchers
Must understand the fundamentals of the science; read and understand technical documents; perform complex scientiﬁc routines, protocols, and tests; articulate data to researcher
Ability to operate and maintain sophisticated equipment
Ability to supervise undergraduate students
Regular workweek may include evening and/or weekend work as required.
Ability to group lead
Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
Masters/Ph D preferred
2-5 yrs experience in GC/MSn possibly LC/MSn methods for analyte quantiﬁcation
QA/QC knowledge understanding and implementation capabilities
Advanced knowledge of Software platforms to include Chemstation and Workstation Xcaliber, and other platforms GC/MSn platforms
Methods development and SPME experience
Ability to generate publication quality data from studies in environmental and toxicological based research
Experience with ﬁeld deployment of passive sampling devices, is a plus
