Position SummaryA Research Associate (Post-Doc) position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Neal Hammer in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University. We seek a passionate post-doctoral associate that will work towards increasing our knowledge of the mechanisms the important human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus utilizes to acquire nutrient sulfur during infection. The project will use genetic, biochemical, ‘omics’-based technologies, and animal models of infection to discover underlying mechanisms that promote acquisition of this essential element in vivo. Applicants should have a PhD degree in the area of microbiology/immunology/molecular biology or a related field and have a strong background in genetics. Strong quantitative and communication skills are required. The applicant is expected to design and conduct experiments independently and clearly document results for use in presentations, manuscripts and grant applications. Experience with BSL2 pathogens, animal models of infection and husbandry, mass spectrometry, and mammalian genetics are desirable but not required. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position with reappointment contingent on satisfactory performance and available funding.
