The Jia lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist in the studying of pathogenesis of infectious and inflammatory lung diseases. The involved projects will focus on investigating the role of pulmonary ACE2 in influenza and Corona viral lung infection in vitro and in mouse models. Techniques will include executing cell culture, viral/bacterial lung infection mouse model, molecular cloning, RNAseq, flow cytometry (FACS), PCR as well as imaging.
Responsible for executing and interpreting experimental data while under the general supervision of Dr. Hongpeng Jia.
Perform laboratory tasks and complete routine assays following common or established protocols and procedures.
Work requires basic use of scientific methods, procedures and techniques gained through previous training and experience.
Uses basic understanding of theory behind experiments and applies basic analytical skills to implement assigned projects, and to troubleshoot situations needing special attention.
Follows established procedures and protocols utilizing aseptic techniques to perform laboratory tests and experiments.
Ensures the laboratory and equipment are functioning properly, which may include monitoring inventory levels and ordering materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, while under the supervision of a faculty investigator.
Counts orders upon receipt.
Maintain records of attendance at regulatory/training sessions.
Actively participate in conduct of animal experiments.
Perform necropsies to collect tissue and fluid specimens for analyses.
Interact with faculty, lab and administrative staff, students, postdoctoral fellows and outside vendors.
Meet weekly with the PI and selected staff to review recent data, troubleshoot current experiments, review new experimental protocols and prioritize new experiments.
Demonstrate organization, curiosity, problem solving, resourcefulness and flexibility.
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field.
Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
Prior laboratory experience performing relevant techniques (this can include research internships or undergraduate research work done during an applicant’s undergraduate education) preferred.
Experience with molecular cloning, mutagenesis, RNAseq, Western blotting, PCR, cell culture and handling of small animals are plus.
Ability to work well as a team member is highly preferred.
