Reporting to the Director of Health Privacy and Compliance and the Medical Director, the NP is responsible for providing direct care to to employees, students, and graduate students of the Boston University research community. This includes, but is not limited to evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of work-related injuries/exposures and illnesses and initial and annual medical surveillance evaluations including mental health, urine drug, and physical examinations as needed. Responsible for reporting exposures to local public health agencies. Reviews new and existing monthly IBC and IACUC protocols to determine objectives of the project, procedures and manipulations involved in the study to determine appropriate medical surveillance required. Attends IBC, IACUC, and Lab Safety Committee meetings. Consults, as needed, with Emergency, Infectious Disease physicians or other medical personnel to determine appropriate care for personnel referred for treatment of an exposure related incident. Counsels/educates researchers regarding risks involved in exposures and expected outcome course. Advocates for patients to insure prompt and appropriate medical care. Reviews respirator questionnaires and determines if researcher is able to be cleared to wear a respirator. Also reports incidents to Boston University key stake holders.
Must be a licensed Nurse Practitioner. Position requires excellent organizational and communications skills and ability to work in a fast paced environment. Work in an occupational health setting is preferred.
