The Director will plan, direct and lead the clinical risk management program, including development of risk reduction strategies, claims management, program administration and risk management/patient safety education. This individual is responsible for coordinating those systems necessary for identification, evaluation, monitoring, reduction and/or elimination of professional and general liability risk exposures. The Director will collaborate with staff throughout the hospital and provide counseling and education to facility leadership, clinical personnel, and medical staff members related to risk exposures including risk prevention and risk reduction. The Director will participate in the management and support of professional liability litigation at the direction and under the guidance of the HCI Department of Claims. The Director also serves as the Patient Safety Officer and collaborates with the Facility Safety Officer. She/he is responsible for leading safety initiatives including, but not limited to, providing medical staff and leadership education, developing policies and procedures as indicated, making recommendations for organizational improvements and serving as a link to and from the Employee Safety and Security Team,, Patient Safety Committee, Environment of Care Committee , Emergency Management Committee, and Quality Management Committee. The Director will assist with inspections and handles emergency situations related to safety and environmental health. The Director assists with developing, implementing and monitoring compliance with Safety, EM, EH policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment, is responsible for the Security function, working closely with Hospital Shared Services and working with the emergency preparedness coordinator, ensuring the facility can prevent, mitigate and respond to disasters.

Appropriate licensure for healthcare related degree.
Risk Management Certification or Patient Safety Certification desirable.
Bachelor degree required (healthcare related field preferred). Masters degree in healthcare or management field preferred.
A minimum of five years experience in acute care setting required (clinical experience preferred).
Minimum of two years experience in clinical risk management preferred.
Previous management experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local statutes related to healthcare and Safety as well as The Joint Commission standards.
Must have the ability to assess information, apply critical thinking, determine best course of action, and convey necessary information to the interdisciplinary team.
Requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Must be able to lead and motivate individuals at all levels of the organization.
Must be able to prioritize workload and respond to variability in workload depending on census and organizational need.
Requires working knowledge of basic statistics and statistical analysis methodologies as well as the ability to translate data/statistics into relevant information for staff within the organization.
