Position summary:MICA seeks a technically proficient, adaptable, collaborative Instructional Technologist.Â The Instructional Technologist, in coordination with the Director of Curriculum Design and Development, adjunct faculty and students, works to provide a seamless online student experience for online programming offered through Open Studies.Â Essential functions of this position include efforts related to providing support in Canvas, Zoom, managementÂ of course shells while supporting students and faculty with the use of Canvas and Zoom and other program technology.Â
General purpose:Â The Instructional Technologist works in support of the director of curriculum design and development to ensure courses the Open Studies online learning environment and related technologies support student educational achievement/success.
Position responsibilities:Open Studies serves a diverse student body of traditional and non-traditional college students, art and design professionals, adult learners, teens, and children. The unit administers four unique professional graduate programs in the Business of Art and Design, Information Visualization, UX Design, and Design Leadership along with studio-based art and design classes for adults, teens, and children, short-term travel programs, and programs in support of the collegeâs diversity and internationalization goals.Â As MICAâs educational venture space, the unit is engaged in innovating academic programming (including digital education, new curricular areas and program structures, and programs for non-traditional students) and revenue growth.Â The assistant director, curriculum design and development will:Â Â
Develop media products for use in online and web-enhanced courses and websites including interactive activities, video, audio podcasts, and graphics
Collaborate and consult with faculty, staff, and associates on the effective use of instructional design strategies, web-based resources, multimedia technologies, and instructional software and systems to improve teaching for online delivery
Ensure instructional integrity of the course development projects through a method of systematic design and clear course standards and outcomes
Manage project timelines and coordinate with team members and partners to meet project deliverables
Work closely with the director of curriculum design and development to effectively support facultyâs delivery of meaningful content and delivery through Canvas, Zoom, and an array of other digital tools
Support the Directorâs work to develop individualized professional development plans for faculty
Laias with Canvas, Zoom, and other program related technology support resources
Write and maintain technical procedural manuals and documents in support of faculty and student success
Identify and communicate opportunities for process and quality improvements, providing feedback on usage, defects, and suggested enhancements to the learning environment
Remain abreast of current technology as it applies to LMS software and systems
Train and support students with technology tools for User Experience Design, Business/Financial/Accounting systems, Data Analytics and Visualization coding and software, and use of source control management systems (SCM), media file formats and file conversions.
Provide excellent customer service

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of e-learning tools, teaching methods, and rubricsÂ Â
Knowledge of current instructional theories for collaborative, web-based learning
Ability to organize multiple projects and assignments simultaneously
Ability to manage various course schedules across three programs (evening attendance)
Demonstrated competency using Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate
Experience with Canvas as a learning management system, including its vast array of features and functionalities
Experience with web-based technologies and presentation software (e.g., VoiceThread, Panopto, Canva, PPT Online, etc.)
Experience with online conferencing software (e.g. Zoom)
Basic knowledge of streaming audio and video, compression methods, file types, and formats
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, basic HTML editing software, and basic image manipulation software, such as Fireworks or Photoshop
Familiarity with Office 365 tools, Camtasia and Articulate Rise preferred but not required
Graphic design and multimedia experience a plus including experience with products in Adobe Suite
Bachelorâs Degree in Art/Design/Education/eLearning/Technology IT or related fields
Background in IT
Experience with student/customer support services
Experience using online course software
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Bachelor's degree in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or related field
Three years of progressively responsible experience in course design and development, faculty training, or program/course assessment/evaluation required
Master Degree in instructional design, educational technology or related field strongly preferred
Demonstarted years of experience in instructional design
