The Safety Compliance & Loss Control Specialist will assist the Director of Operations with safety, compliance and loss-control matters related to all areas of CPI. Responsible for providing direct operational support and activity reporting to the Director of Operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing priorities and availability of resources, and demonstrating initiative in identifying additional job-related tasks to be completed when time permits.
1. Plan, develop and conduct safety, health, accident and loss prevention programs, including programs for office personnel.
2. Schedule and conduct periodic field safety inspections and meetings to identify occupational health/risk and safety hazards. Provide methods and means to eliminate and control hazards. Train personnel in safety practices and accident prevention.
3. Coordinate and participate in scheduled safety committee meetings. Assist with implementing strategies for preventing and mitigating losses.
4. Conduct near miss, damage and accident investigations. Complete written reporting and documentation. Prepare and present results to the Safety Committee.
5. Advise CPI’s leadership team and employees of safety requirements and standards. Provides on-site technical loss control/risk management assistance, systems and programs; such as written safety policies, safety videos, industrial hygiene assistance, safety committee training and various other safety related training topics.
6. Oversee various compliance programs including safety patrols, facility inspection and environmental reporting. Assure complete and accurate documentation.
7. Prepare inspection checklists: inspect facilities periodically for unsafe practices and conditions.
8. Prepare updates for safety manual, make certain employees understand its contents and requirements.
9. Provide training in Accident Investigation. Assist in processing of Worker’s Compensation claims if necessary.
10. Evaluate the need and effectiveness of approved types of protective equipment. Recommend purchase of appropriate equipment; train personnel in proper use.
11. Develop and administer appropriate industrial hygiene programs. Administer hearing-loss prevention programs; maintain contact with medical and industrial hygiene community to remain current in industry practices and problem resolution. Supervise first-aid/CPR/AED training.
12. Maintain records for statistical measurements and management reports; ensure that reporting conforms to state and federal requirements and safety industry standards.
13. Develop working relationships with other utilities, state and federal regulatory agencies and insurance carriers. Participate in state-wide programs, exchange information and ideas for programs. Provide representation in legislative hearings and provide comments as needed.
14. Update safety accreditation reports as needed. Advise management of needed changes to ensure continued accreditation and/or compliance.
15. Assist with development and administration of disaster and contingency plans.
16. Maintain CDL and FMCSA Clearinghouse information.
