The MOC in pediatric hematology will provide a wide variety of advanced clerical and secretarial support to the hemophilia and coagulation practice. This individual will use automated systems to expedite patient scheduling, pre-registration, check-in and check-out, assume administrative tasks, and special projects as requested by the director of the service.
Serve Specific duties include scheduling bone marrows in the pediatric operating room.
Coordinating single case agreements as needed in hematology.
Obtaining pre-certifications as required by patient's health care insurers or managed care providers.
Preparing for each clinic session in advance using the computer to view appointments.
Retrieve materials necessary to ensure a successful patient visit and efficient operations.
Schedule patients for laboratory tests, medical examinations and consultations.
Relaying information to patients regarding preparation for laboratory tests and examinations.
Answer phones and provide information to callers, assist patients, patients' families, referring physicians and third party carriers to resolve patient related issues.
Ensuring effective interpersonal communication and maintaining familiarity with various types of medical/hematology insurance to explain these plans.
Screen patient calls and monitor In Basket messages in EPIC, and various other duties as required.
In addition, provide general administrative support to one or more physicians.
Answer office phone, schedule meetings/maintain calendars for physicians, make travel arrangements, maintain filing system (copy or scan as indicated).
Assist with preparation of correspondence, reports, posters, and related documents.
Compile information for reports, grant applications, manuscripts, etc.
Order stock and maintain office supplies.
May coordinate meetings on behalf of the physician.
May assist with preparation of sponsored project material.
Process reimbursements per department protocol as applicable.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Two (2) years of secretarial experience.
Additional education may be substituted for years of related experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for years of related experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
