The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a full time Research Program Manager. The Research Program Manager will be responsible for the conduct and coordination of a multi-center clinical surveillance program, Centers of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance (CEIRS), including two international surveillance programs, as well as several other studies. Will be responsible for the development, production and distribution of operating procedures, data collection instruments, databases, study materials, correspondences and reports. Will additionally communicate and coordinate all network activities between multiple study sites including preparation, revision, and compliance of IRB protocols, ensure site compliance and coordination with study protocols, oversee both administrative and clinical patient-related activities, and ensure communication and compliance with regulations of funding agency. A portion of the time is spent enrolling patients into clinical studies. Will also develop and manage databases, work with data analyst to conduct intermittent statistical analyses, and develop, prepare, and submit publications and grant and contract proposals.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
In collaboration with PI, Executive Director, and sponsors, participate in the development of study design, data collection tools and standard operating procedures.
Serve as main coordinator for all clinical sites including sites in the National Capitol Region, Taiwan and Zambia, and federal collaborators
Develop, prepare and submit grant and contract proposals. Prepare project process reports for funding agencies.
Enrolls patients into CEIRS-related clinical studies, including screening and identification of emergency department patients, completing informed consent, obtaining appropriate clinical information and specimens, scheduling and completing follow-up visits, and, if necessary, reporting adverse events.
Interact daily with investigators, collaborators, and technologists to facilitate a smooth flow for study procedures, and activities. Serve as a liaison with outside collaborators to ensure appropriate implementation of study protocols. Report on protocol progress.
Using sound judgment, and in a timely fashion, communicates to the PI, Sr. Research Program Manager and other investigators any problems that may require additional attention and/ or procedure changes to protocols.
Provide oversight of budget expenditures and assist with tracking of project expenditures.
Develop and implement systems for monitoring, reporting, and quality assurance activities.
Oversee but also work collaboratively with 4-6 research coordinators, research assistants and PhD students. Promote and ensure good clinical practice, ensuring adherence to clinical research protocols.
Ensure program quality, research fidelity, and adherence to project goals and timelines. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding participant privacy and regulations surrounding the conduct of human subject research.
Perform statistical analysis for reports, manuscripts, and quality assurance reports
Develop and maintain study database. Prepare manuscripts for publication at the level of a first or second author. Demonstrate mastery of electronic manuscript submission to academic journals.
Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):
Bachelor’s degree in related discipline required.
Minimum of 5 years related. Demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities required.
Additional graduate education may substitute for the required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula**
Demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities required.
Experience working with human subjects required.
Related Master’s degree preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience in health science research, data management and analysis.
Experience in grant reporting and research writing.
Excellent communication skills necessary along with demonstrated self-management.
Sound decision making skills and excellent problem solving skills required.
Must be autonomous, with a high level of independence.
Any Specific Physical Requirements for the Job:
This position requires the candidate to meet a flexible schedule, with the ability to work some nights and weekends per study requirements, along with the ability to meet short deadlines and to travel domestically and internationally.
