The Community Art Collaborative (CAC) is a community arts-focused AmeriCorps program that has been hosted at MICA since 2004, and is funded in part by a grant from the Maryland Governorâs Office on Service and Volunteerism, and the Corporation for National and Community Service. Â Housed in the MICA Center for Creative Citizenship, the CAC program places community artists in year-long Â (September - August) residencies with nonprofits, schools, and community centers in Baltimore City. The work of CAC member artists provides children, youth, and adults with the benefits of after-school arts-based learning experiences and strengthens neighborhoods through community art projects. Members also have the opportunity to recruit and manage volunteers, develop special projects, plan community events, and gain valuable professional experience in the community arts and non-profit fields. The CAC program is a great fit for someone who would like to gain more hands-on experience teaching youth and adults in community settings, and become connected with a network of community-driven arts organizations in Baltimore.Â
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Demonstrated teaching experience in either teaching youth (K-12 students) in a community setting, or working on community projects that incorporate youth
Experience in volunteer service projects and/or community organizing for events or projects
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); writing skills, for writing lesson plans, monthly report reflections, and potential grantsÂ
Organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, Â and strong work ethic
Some experience in data and information management
Ability to be a strong team player
CAC Members serve at their Host Sites for around 35-40 hours per week. Â That time includes: planning, meeting with Site Supervisors, training workshops, and leading/teaching programs.Â
Complete bi-weekly AmeriCorps timesheets and Monthly Reports
Participating in a Program Evaluation that is required for every AmeriCorps program each year
Tracking some areas of interest at your sites - For example: how many students you work with, how many volunteers you recruit, what partnerships you might formâ¦ etc.Â
Distribute Pre- and Post-Surveys to your students at the beginning and end of the program year
Attending CAC group meetings and CAC training workshops - typically once a month, periodically twice a month, on Fridays
Meeting with the CAC Program Manager for check-in meetings and observations at your site
