This position will assist with the daily care of research animals housed within the Lab Animal Research Center (LARC) facilities.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Perform animal husbandry (care, feeding, watering, and cleaning). Maintain proper sanitation, environment, and health status of housing units. Maintain and verify proper record keeping (census, animal health, document sanitation and equipment maintenance). Provide technical support for LARC and research investigators (treatments, sample collection for sentinels, weaning litters, and administering diets). Participate in continuing education and training. Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant animal care experience.
Ability to have direct and/or indirect physical contact with multiple species of animals. Willingness to participate in the Occupational Health Program for LARC employees, including receiving immunizations recommended by Occupational Health Services. Ability to follow instruction. Time management and multitasking skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions.
Working Conditions / Demands
Very strenuous work, often involving moving heavy objects such as 25 pound bags of feed and/or bedding, and animals and/or housing units up to 250 pounds. Repetitive motions, remaining in a stationary position, prolonged periods of repetitive movement, and some delicate operations.
