General summary/purpose: Johns Hopkins Engineering is seeking an instructional technologist to join the Center for Digital and Media Initiatives (CDMI) team to assist in the development and delivery of online and technology-facilitated courses.
This instructional technologist role requires a mix of knowledge about the technology used in higher education and debugging experience as well as outstanding communication skills. You will be working directly with instructional designers, instructional technologists, multimedia technicians, and student services teams to support faculty in the development and delivery of their courses, and students in the use of educational technology. You will join an experienced instructional technology team and will serve as the main help desk coordinator.
We are looking for a person with a sense of curiosity for technology, compassion for the unique problems of faculty and students, accountability, edtech knowledge, and help desk experience.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Answer faculty and student questions through our support center
Create and edit guides on the use of instructional technology
Conduct live training and support for faculty, including phone and chat support
Assist with course copies
Assist faculty and staff with classroom technology
Maintain and improve upon the instructional technology infrastructure at WSE including the daily operation, use, and configuration of video streaming platform, learning management system, and relevant licenses for course production and delivery.
Serve as a key support for internal faculty and student across
700-level master’s courses
Undergraduate and graduate courses for the Whiting School
Initiatives with other centers
MOOC and at-scale courses
Perform a quality assurance review of all courses being developed to ensure adherence to internal standards.
Manage equipment inventory for multimedia and course production.
Collaborate with instructional designers and multimedia technicians in the design and development of a sustainable and engaging learning experiences.
Assist in the piloting and testing of innovative instructional technology tools and services.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Two years of progressively responsible experience in course design and development, faculty training, program/course assessment/evaluation, or technical support required.
Additional education may substitute for experience, and additional experience may substitute required education to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.
Experience working with higher education faculty and staff.
Ability to collect data, create reports, and prepare written communication with an attention to detail and accuracy.
Familiarity with SCORM, LTI, and RESTful APIs.
Experience with an LMS and video platform.
Experience configuring and troubleshooting technology-enabled classrooms.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
An understanding of and respect for the unique demands and characteristics of part-time students and faculty members.
Demonstrated technology skills and ability – experience with the major learning management systems, digital audio and video production, graphic design (preferably Adobe CC), and issue and project tracking using a task management platform.
Excellent writing and communication skills, with a knack for taking technical language and making it understandable.
Functional ability in HTML and CSS
An ability to learn and adapt so that you can help teach others.
A passion for solving tough problems and proposing helpful solutions.
Experience and demonstrated competence with Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete tasks according to established deadlines.
Technical proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite and Office 365.
Experience with online synchronous course delivery.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:
Knowledge of the following will be considered a plus: Zendesk Support and Guide, Blackboard, Kaltura, Camtasia.
