Essential Job Duties:
The Precision Engineering Consortium is a government/industry funded research consortium located on NCSU's Centennial Campus. The PEC is searching for a Research Engineer to lead its research, design, and fabrication efforts.
Because of the multidisciplinary nature of the PEC, this position requires a “hands on” engineer with a broad skill set. The position will require the candidate to:
Participate in proposal preparation and interaction with industrial and government sponsors
Write technical papers about the work done in the PEC to inform the engineering community, to develop new projects, and to advertise the capabilities of the Consortium.
Conduct independent research including designing experiments, implementing data acquisition systems, and analyzing data.
Mentor graduate students by providing assistance in experiment design, instrument use, machine operation, etc.
Train student on instrument, machines and laboratory techniques
Maintain a wide array of laboratory instruments, metrology equipment and machining systems
Oversee environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance
Other duties as assigned.
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree, or relevant Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of independent research experience. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Working knowledge of machine shop practices and procedures
Experience in mechanical design and manufacturing
Familiarity with laboratory instruments
Good written and oral communication skills
BS, MS, or PhD in engineering
Experience in mechanical design and manufacturing.
Experience with precision engineering
SEM, FIB, AFM experience
CAD (Solidworks, Fusion 360)
