Summary: The Director is responsible for providing leadership and management of and technical direction to the water engineering and sciences section and team. The Director must be able to set high and achievable performance and operational standards for the team; and, encourage the team to meet goals efficiently and professionally.
The Director is responsible for leading the team to perform planning and feasibility studies, design and preparation of engineering plans and specifications, cost estimates, operations and management programs, value engineering, construction management and project closeout; vertical and horizontal asset management; and energy management services.
Additional responsibilities entail training and mentoring staff; being an active participant in strategic planning initiatives; marketing and business planning, development and execution; proposal preparation; client outreach; and active participation in professional organizations.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop strong relationships with clients.
Work independently, but collaboratively with senior management, in a leadership position on water engineering projects. This includes having complete planning, implementation, and management (technical, administrative, financial and client contact and interphase) accountability for projects.
Lead multi-disciplinary project teams made up of engineers, scientists, technologists and technicians to deliver high quality projects on time and within budget. Projects may be local, regional, national, and international.
Serve as technical lead for a portfolio of projects with responsibility for providing input on deliverables, participating in client presentations, developing proposals and supporting business development activities. Provide strategic direction for leading-edge water infrastructure and environmental programs and projects and promote faster uptake and application within PEER.
Represent company at professional association meetings, serve on professional committees, and likewise promote staff participation within company.
Education, Experience and Knowledge:
Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering. Ph.D. is preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) license is required; Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar is desired.
Minimum 12 - 15 years of demonstrated experience in engineering modeling, planning and design for water systems and associated piping, appurtenances, and related systems (storage, reuse, energy management).
Must have the ability to prepare and review detailed engineering design drawings and specifications.
Must have the ability to manage and direct AUTOCAD operations.
Must have proven and demonstrated technical grasp of water engineering and sciences.
Must have technical experience with scientific studies and engineering design skills in the water media with an emphasis on potable water, storm water, domestic wastewater, and fresh waters of the US.
Must have demonstrable experience managing people and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
Must possess excellent oral and written skills, with the ability to analyze and solve technical problems.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other software applications.
Knowledge of pipeline inspection, rehabilitation and condition assessment is highly desired.
Board Certification in Environmental Engineering and Science (AAEES), active membership in professional organizations such as ASCE, AWWA, WEF, etc. is desired.
Working Conditions: Primary duties are performed indoors but may be required to conduct field visits. Conditions could include exposure to extreme cold and/or hot temperatures; also, subject to noise and hazards from a variety of physical conditions.
Physical Demands: Requires the ability to work outdoors for long periods of time, to tolerate various weather conditions, and to walk or stand for long periods of time.
