The Research Assistant performs experiments from protocols outlined by the PI and will deviate from protocol when appropriate/necessary. This work will focus on understanding the biology of the human pathogen Candida albicans and how Candida acts as both a commensal and as a pathogen in humans. The work will involve using molecular biology approaches to dissect the mechanisms underlying key aspects of C. albicans reproduction and pathogenesis, including interactions with other microbial species and with the mammalian host.
Education and Experience:
Required: Bachelorâ™s degree in Biology or related science
Extensive coursework in science and independent research experience.
Understanding of the importance of proper design, carrying out, and interpretation of scientific experiments.
Experience in sterile laboratory techniques helpful.
Willingness to take instruction and training in specific techniques, and Environmental Health and Safety training.
Ability to interact and support other members of the laboratory
Ability to accurately describe and record experimental protocols and data.
Time management skills to be able to carry out multiple tasks in an appropriate amount of time.
Willing to work with infectious agents.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Highly motivated to gain experience in biological research.
Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.
