The REACH Initiative at The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing is a center within The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. The Sr. Research Data Analyst will help to oversee and assist with the data collection and the transformation of data in collaboration with other study members, supporting custom analysis and preparing reports from preliminary analysis, which could be used for publications, presentations under the supervision of the Center Director. Oversee data management activities including clinical trials; in addition to completion of data collection, entry, error reports, transferring, and editing raw datasets if necessary, and keeping a good tracking system of any changes. The successful applicant will work with an interdisciplinary team of faculty. Under the supervision of the Center Directors, the data analyst will collaborate on innovative Center and grant-funded research projects that focus on a variety of domestic and international projects in infectious diseases – including HIV, Tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infection and others.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Help to prepare manual of procedures to collect high quality data.
Execute sophisticated statistical analyses of complex clinical trials and observational studies. Assist with development and implementation of novel methodologies under direction of Principal Statistician and PI of the projects.
Filter and “clean” data, and review computer reports, printouts, and indicators to locate and correct code problems. Design strategies, analyses, and data code books.
Oversees & performs constructions of datasets, variables & data cleaning.
Help to produce tables and graphs in publication-quality form, & present results to senior investigators.
Serves as a quality control checkpoint person for data collected and analyses (conducted by self or others).
Provide preliminary and interim analyses of data; additionally, perform statistical calculations under the guidance of Center Director and to assist with preparation of reports, scientific abstracts and method section of manuscripts related to projects.
Performs analyses on large, complex datasets, and documents analyses using STATA.
Prepare data & analyses reports regarding the status of the database & analytical activities as well as reviews reports to verify data.
Present & disseminate information & data analyses.
Help to write statistical sections of study reports.
Provides research design guidance to study investigators and consultants; assist in the development of questionnaires by making recommendations to data collection procedures and databases structures.
Attend weekly scientific meetings.
Provides training, assistance, and advice to students and research staff on data analysis, analysis techniques, the use of the analysis system and large, complex database.
Provide computing & analysis support to faculty, and graduate students.
Serves as a liaison between the Principal Investigators and center.
Participate in writing statistical plans for grants and papers for publication under the supervision of the Center Director.
Performs multiple tasks and other functions outside the scope of this position.
Conduct statistical analyses for clinical trials and large epidemiological and longitudinal studies using standard statistical software packages (e.g., STATA).
Design and prepare tables and figures to illustrate analytic findings. Collaborate with statisticians and clinicians in drafting of statistical design, methods, and analysis sections for reports, scientific papers, and grant proposals.
Master's degree in related discipline.
Typically requires a PhD.
One (1) year related experience. Require highly specialized advanced knowledge, education and/or training in a specialized field of study to conduct research.
Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Three (3) years of related experience.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong quantitative skills, and applied data analysis, including mediation and moderation analyses is required.
Experience with large data set management required.
Must be detail-oriented and able to work independently.
