We are currently hiring an outreach assistant to work as a part of a large community-level intervention aimed to reduce HIV risk and increase community cohesion among sex workers in Baltimore, MD. The intervention is focused on expanding harm reduction services through street-based outreach and promoting the services at a full service drop-in center for sex workers (SPARC).The outreach assistant will support the outreach coordinator in managing and coordinating SPARC outreach and will support SPARC center staff in assisting with drop-in center activities. This position reports directly to the outreach coordinator.
Outreach activities will take place in Pigtown, Carrol Park, Mount Clare, Brooklyn, and other areas of South Baltimore.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Work closely with the outreach coordinator to schedule outreach shifts, order supplies, and troubleshoot outreach staffing issues.
Help to develop the new SPARC Overdose Education Program.
Engage in harm reduction-based street outreach throughout Baltimore City during the day and at night.
Drive the outreach vehicle and act as a team leader on outreach shifts.
Work in the Drop-In Center, assisting with client intake, laundry and shower services, clinical services, as well as other SPARC services and activities.
Assist in the facilitation of groups and trainings.
Build rapport with community members, including sex workers, community associations, and local business owners.
Promote the SPARC Center services and events (clinic hours, classes, support groups etc.)
Work with the outreach coordinator to track the distribution of Naloxone and train community members on its use and benefits.
Assist with need assessments and help develop outreach plans to inform Center programs.
Engage in regular check-ins with the Outreach Coordinator.
Distribute promotional items, including condoms, hand sanitizer, lip balm, wipes, wipes etc.
Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. Prior interview and field work experience preferred. Experience conducting outreach with diverse populations including sex workers and drug users strongly preferred. Successful candidates will undergo training sessions prior to working in the community.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be willing and able to drive a large outreach van.
