The Gastroenterology and Hepatology division is seeking a full-time licensed Physician Assistant to providecomprehensiveandepisodiccare to the patients at Sibley Memorial Hospital or asdesignatedby the Division Chief. This includes seeing GIpatients in clinic and in hospital,taking a history,completing a physicalassessment,interpretingdiagnostic tests, and billing and dictating for eachpatient encounter in a timely fashion.
Assists the Division Chief’s assistant (an advanced Endoscopy fellow) with triaging newpatients,referrals for therapeuticendoscopy,andDirectAccess endoscopy.
Provides routine health maintenance for the Division Chief’s existing patients. This includes a review of the patientchartand diagnostic information to assess that labs and radiologic testing are being completedas per predefinedprotocol.
Coordinates with physicianofficesandensures that appropriate data is available on patient before clinic visit or endoscopic procedures.
Proposes andimplementsmedical therapy andtreatmentplans for patients seen in the clinicandfollowedbycollaboratingphysicians.
Requests and facilitates the scheduling ofdiagnostictestsasindicatedbywrittennotes/orders.
Coordinatesand assists in the pre and post op evaluation of inpatients and outpatients as directed by the PI.
Participates,communicates the results of discussions andarranges for any requiredprocedures/ tests/ investigations of the Division Chief’s patients as directed or discussedat multidisciplinary meetings.
Monitors patients while on therapy to evaluate them for side effects and expectedoutcomes.
Adjusts and starts new medicationsasindicatedby patient condition.
Counsels and teaches patients and family members about the disease process and expectedoutcomes.
Makes referrals to other specialists asindicatedby the patient’scondition.
Promptly enters clinicnotesand other pertinent data into EPIC as this is integral to the proper care of the patient.Communicateswithand provides information to referring physicians.
Coordinatesand acts as a sub-investigator in clinicaltrials. This includespreparing and submitting forms to the IRB.Enrolls patients into studies by completing health assessmentandphysicalexaminations.Reviews lab work and diagnostictestsand making changesas indicatedby lab results while following the protocol. This alsoincludes potentially discontinuing a patienton a study for reasons of non-compliance orother issues. Enters all patient data into a database.

Handlesand resolves patient complaints non-defensively and without blame to otheremployees.Seeks to satisfy a dissatisfiedcustomer.
Isgenerous in assisting and supporting others.
Operatespersonalcomputer to accessemail,computerizedscheduling and documentation databases,and other basic office support software.
Successfully completes all necessary EPIC training coursesand other applicableclinicalsoftware systems, including but not limited to ORMISand Pentax.
CompletesallrequiredHIPAAand other specified online trainingcourses.
Other duties may be assignedby the employee’simmediateclinical supervisor, AssistantAdministratorfor the Division, or a healthcare provider in order to ensure anefficientoffice that will assist the Division in fulfilling its’ mission.
Minimum qualifications (mandatory):
Required completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and required to complete JHH credentialingprocess prior to startdate.
Successfulcompletion of the nationalcertificationexaminationandcertificationas a physicianassistant. PA licensure in the state of Maryland and District of Columbia.
Approval of the Board of PhysicianQuality/Maryland & District of Columbia for the writtensigneddelegationagreement.
Familiaritywith regulationsandstandardsgoverning PAs in the state of Marylandand District of Columbia.
Recentmedical/surgicalexperience with therapeutic GI endoscopy practice.
Demonstrated ability for self-directionandinitiationrequired.Demonstrated ability to work independently andas part of a teamrequired. Demonstrated customer service skills required. Must be able to prioritize responsibilitiesandwork in a fast-paced environment.
