The Day at the Market is a multifaceted program of outreach and engagement sponsored by the Johns Hopkins East Baltimore campus. The Northeast Market is where Johns Hopkins meets the community and is an important venue where Johns Hopkins can "bridge-the-disconnect" regarding the lack of access to resources and information. Our hope is that the individuals we interact with will receive pertinent educational materials, answers to questions from experts, and services or resources that will help them make positive behavioral changes for health
This is a contractor position for a 4-months period and a total of 86.5 hours to begin April 1, 2019 to July 31, 2020; to provide onsite assistance and support for all existing Day at the Market programs and associated special community education and engagement events.
[2 hours: the 1st Tuesdays/each month; 5 hours: the 2nd, 3rd, and last Wednesdays/each month; additional hours on various days during each month for the administrative tasks, community outreach, program development and other duties as assigned.]
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Assist DM Manager with planning two major Day at the Market activities: Public Health Day. (April), National Preparedness Day (September), and a Prevention Day (in planning)
Attend Day at the Market and assist with management tasks as needed (e.g., adjusting the DM LCD display)
Support and expand community outreach; identify new market participants and other pertinent resources. MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with community program setup: covering tables; coordinating promotional materials for community participants, market merchants and vendors.
High School Diploma/GED.
Six (6) months related experience.
Ability to communicate with diverse populations and with various levels of positions and management.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Average to above-average computer skills in word processing, documents management and facility using Internet explorer and Google chrome. People person – demonstrate a teachable spirit; must be dependable and able and willing to be flexible.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
