The Nutritional Sciences Program within the School of Public Health at the University of Washington (UW) invites applications for one full-time (100% FTE) faculty position at the rank of assistant professor without tenure (WOT) with an anticipated start date of October 2019 or later by negotiation. Faculty have an annual service period of twelve months. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The successful applicant will be appointed to the faculty in a School of Public Health department, either Epidemiology or Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences.
This new faculty position will provide sustained research, teaching, and service expertise in the areas of food systems, nutrition, and population health with an emphasis in systems modeling. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, develop an extramurally funded research portfolio, and conduct quality research independently and in collaboration with other School or University faculty and community members. In addition, the candidate will actively participate in service to the university and regional community, and promote a diverse and inclusive community of faculty, staff, and students.
This position will be a member of the core instructional team for the Program's recently launched Bachelor of Arts degree in Food Systems, Nutrition, and Health (http://nutr.uw.edu/undergraduate-study/food-systems-nutrition-and-health-major/) . It is anticipated that the successful candidate will teach a required food systems modeling course (NUTR 402) and participate in curriculum development and instruction in research methods or other areas to support the major. At the graduate level, this position is expected to regularly mentor MS and MPH thesis projects and may participate in developing food systems curricula for graduate students.
The UW Nutritional Sciences Program is an interdisciplinary academic program in the School of Public Health composed of core, interdisciplinary, and clinical faculty who are nationally and internationally recognized experts with connections spanning a wide range of disciplines including epidemiology, environmental and occupational health sciences, health services, medicine, engineering, and urban design and planning. In addition to the major in Food Systems, Nutrition, and Health, the program offers an undergraduate Nutrition minor and partners with the school's Public Health – Global Health major to offer a nutrition option. The Program's graduate offerings include MPH, MS, and PhD degree programs and a graduate coordinated training program in dietetics. Program faculty have broad opportunities for collaboration across the School's five departments, other UW schools and colleges, and other campus and community partners.
