What You'll Be Doing - The Maintenance Supervisor is a key leadership position at the Newport site. The position is responsible for the safety, productivity, and development of their direct reports while ensuring their team of mechanics, electricians and instrument technicians execute the elements of their job within the maintenance processes every day in line with the expectations of the Maintenance Group Leader and the Site Engineering & Maintenance Manager.
Provides leadership and oversight to a crew of 10-20 maintenance & E&I mechanics working within a 24hr/7 day manufacturing environment with Safety as a number one priority.
Requisitions, schedules and provides field oversight of outside contractors and suppliers of maintenance services performing work at the site.
Schedules resources (equipment, material and human resources) in order to accomplish the work in a safe, timely, quality conscious, efficient & cost-effective manner.
Handles emergency schedule breakers by effectively and efficiently assigning work within the available resources.
Provides primary input to preparing the maintenance budget, and controls spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.
Develops the equipment maintenance knowledge and decision-making capability of the work crew.
Ensures alignment of the employee's work and behaviors with the Vision, Values & Goals of the organization.
Prepares, communicates, and maintains written records of the employee performance including coaching, performance counseling & discipline as well as recognition of exceptional performance.
Provides proper documentation and administration of employee time & attendance, disability, worker's compensation, family medical leave, etc.
Handles small Maintenance Projects through to successful completion. This may include scheduling and coordination of both internal and external resources.
Facilitates BASF-sponsored safety awareness & training initiatives (confined space entry, lock-out tag-out, hot works, line break as well as other structured safety programs).
Troubleshoots quality and process problems in collaboration with production supervisors, production engineers, process engineers, quality engineers, and others to ensure that all aspects of equipment operation and maintenance are managed.
Works in conjunction with the Site Reliability Engineer to maintain and improve plant reliability through identifying/ correcting bad actors, conducting root cause failure analyses, meeting mechanical integrity requirements and implementing preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
Support and adhere to the principles of the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care(r) by protecting the environment, health, safety and security of our employees, contractors, carriers, distributors, visitors, customers and neighbors.
Be knowledgeable of and follow all Environmental, Health and Safety practices including but not limited to: manage waste movements, according to satellite and/or 90-day accumulation requirements, inspect air contaminant sources and institute corrective action for out-of-spec conditions, prevent releases into the sewer and/or storm water systems by following BMPs (best management practices), activate BASF emergency response procedures in case of spills or other emergencies.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Shine With Colors & Effects! Do You Have What It Takes?
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Working knowledge of stationary and rotating equipment and an understanding of Pressure Vessel Code requirements.
Working knowledge of Chemical Plant equipment and design, experienced in personnel administration and good labor relations.
5 years of supervisory experience in an industrial maintenance environment.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, analytical thinking, communication, customer focus, entrepreneurial acting/change agent and coaching.
General knowledge of rotating and stationary equipment repair, construction and installation techniques.
