The Department of Urology is seeking a Research Program Assistant II. Under the direct supervision of Dr. Michael Gorin, the Research Program Assistant II will be responsible for supporting all aspects of clinical research conducted by Dr. Gorin and his scientific collaborators. This includes coordinating study start-up activities, scheduling and preparing for patient visits, assisting with data collection and clarification, and general administrative duties. This position will work closely with all members of the Brady Urological Institute, including PIs, research nurses, and other study coordinators.
About Dr. Gorin:Assistant Professor of Urology, Oncology, and Radiology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also serves as the Director of the Prostate Cancer Precision Medicine Center of Excellence at The James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute. Dr. Gorin is an expert in minimally invasive and image-guided urology. His clinical practice focuses on the care of patients with a range of urologic diseases including prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, kidney cancer, and kidney stones. Dr. Gorin’s research focuses on the development of novel diagnostic tests and imaging techniques to address clinical problems within the field of urologic oncology.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists with data collection, including patient interviews, obtaining medical records, lab results, diagnostic results, visit notes, data entry, and data clarification.
Assists nursing staff to prepare for research patient visits. Helps with appointment scheduling, research kit preparation and inventory, and study orders delivery.
Assists in the process of consenting research participants and the collection of bio specimens as outlined in approved protocols
Sets up protocol implementation tools, including visit checklists, research requisitions, meal and parking vouchers, and sample collection trackers.
Assist with laboratory processing of patient specimens
Assist with collection, entering of data into databases, and compiling of data for reports and presentations
Learns and follows all study procedures and protocols.
Participates in routine group meetings and/or study-specific teleconference.
Performs general administrative tasks, including copying, faxing, maintaining office supplies, and errand running.
Assists with study invoicing and reimbursement requests.
Has working knowledge of and complies with Good Clinical Practices, ICH Guidelines and SKCCC Clinical Research Office policies.
High School Diploma/GED. Two (2) years related work experience required.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum experience required for the respective job.
Bachelor’s degree in related discipline preferred.
Certified Phlebotomist or equivalent certification desired.
Must adhere to guidelines regarding honest reporting of sensitive and confidential patient information.
Understands the importance/impact of data integrity in terms of patients, study results, costs, quality of service and scientific research in general. Regular contact with physicians, other health care personnel and occasionally, patients, requires the use of good judgment, tact and sensitivity.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Phlebotomy training is not required, but prior experience/training is a plus. Candidates without this training must attend phlebotomy training (training to be provided at the cost of the employer)
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office
Knowledge of medical terminology required.
Outstanding organizational skills required. Must have excellent time management skill.
Excellent attention to detail skills required.
Ability to understand and implement support for clinical trials.
Ability to manage multiple projects at once, and effectively prioritize each.
Requires outstanding verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
