An Accounting Assistant reports to a CS Lead, Supervisor or Finance Manager and is part of a team of Accounting Assistants who collectively review and process transactions and support the operations within CS. He or she will:
Process transactions related to Payroll, Procurement, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and /or General Accounting in systems that support CS core operations and/or non-consolidated entities so that financial information in the General Ledger is timely, accurate and complete.
Gain understanding of key internal controls, policies and procedures related to transactions to monitor and enforce compliance.
Communicate, interact and follow up with customers on issues found through transaction processing or when requested by customer.
Adhere to a calendar of accounting activities to ensure that all transactions are processed and by appropriate deadlines.
Develop knowledge and skills in the use of CS or University systems that support transactions and/or reports necessary to CS accounting operations
Develop knowledge of other accounting software such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft word and Microsoft Office tools necessary to support CS accounting operations.
Support the production of CS reporting to a wide variety of customers, including those internal to CS or Harvard University as well as those external to Harvard University.
Document procedures related to job duties and suggest improvements to existing processes.
Serve as back up for critical activities of other CS Accounting Assistants
Work with others in the CS Financial Services team on special projects.
Three years' experience in payroll, accounting, finance, or related field. Must have knowledge of internal controls and automated accounting systems. Strong attention to detail along with consistent exercise of discretion, independent judgment and initiative required. Must demonstrate proficiency with MS Office and the ability to learn and utilize numerous accounting systems.
Experience in an academic environment and/or real estate environment preferred. . Must exhibit excellent communication and team interaction skills.
