The Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)/Program Manager will serve in a dual role for SJS as both a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Industrial Hygiene and the key manager in charge of daily operations of SJS’s Industrial Hygiene contract. Daily program management activities you will be performing can include scheduling general contract activities, monitoring the work of and scheduling the activities of other SJS personnel on the contract, managing budgets like the pool of funds available to pay for laboratory work, composing monthly status reports, attending contract milestone meetings, ensuring all SJS employees fill in their time cards properly, etc.
Serve as the Program Manager in charge of SJS’s Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Safety and Health contract
Monitor program schedules, budgets and resource allocation on a regular basis to ensure all contract requirements are fulfilled
Performing standard Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) technical activities
Coordinate, plan, teach and/or monitor the execution of government employee training sessions about workplace safety, ergonomics, and related topics
Coordinate, plan, execute and monitor the execution of the following services, including scheduling other SJS personnel to perform some or all of the work as needed: ergonomic assessments and related ergonomic consulting, investigation of alleged unsafe/unhealthful working conditions, general Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Services, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Services and sampling, Asbestos/Lead/ Mold Services, Health Risk Workplace Assessments, Site Surveillances of the occupational workplace and the physical environment, and related tasks
Prepare and submit reports and health risk assessments clearly identifying the findings, including health risks associated with the workplace, deficiencies found in the workplace, and all recommended control measures for each task assigned
Perform Noise Assessments, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Inspections Training, Laser Safety Assessments, Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) assessments, Confined Space Entry Review and Training, Lockout/Tagout procedures and training, Employee Air Monitoring, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Assessment and air sampling, Portable Eyewash and Emergency Shower Evaluations and Assessments, Health Risk Assessments and related activities
Collect samples to send to third party laboratories pertaining to Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), mold air and wipe samples, formaldehyde, xylene, asbestos, waste anesthetic gases and other stressors as necessary. Other tests include ventilation air flow, air changes, wipe, grab or surface sampling for various constituents as needed
Investigate reports of increased illnesses, such as colds, flu, asthma, weakness, burning eyes, itching skin, rashes, sore throats, allergies, lethargy, headaches, etc. Additionally, test, evaluate, and make recommendations to correct indoor air quality problems such as ventilation, air circulation, temperature, mold, bacteria, chemicals, allergens, asbestos, and lead. Review and report any suspected errors in reports received from laboratories.
Assist in the development and execution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) programs
Develop and compose the overall Quality Control Plan (QCP) for the contract and ensure the Plan is in use for the full duration of the contract; ensure the other SJS employees on the contract abide by the Plan
Compose Monthly Status Reports (MSRs) summarizing contract activity for the Contract Office
Monitor contract funds and budgets, such as the laboratory fund
Regularly report on contract progress to the SJS executive management team, at minimum each week
Ensure all other employees on this contract exhibit proper attendance and fill in their daily time cards correctly and on time, in accordance with federal law
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required by the contract and the SJS executive management team.
Current Certified Industrial Hygienist through the American Board of Industrial Hygienist (ABIH)
At least four (4) years within a medical or hospital environment
OSHA 30 Certificate
40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) Certificate
Must have prior management experience within a safety and occupational health program
Veteran status is preferred
Successfully pass background ground/drug screen process
