The LPN will operate Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) machines and associated devices in a clinic setting. The LPN will be responsible for independently administering clinical treatments and research protocols
Under the administrative supervision of a physician and the nursing supervision of the Meyer 4 Nurse Manager the LPN will:
Prepare patient for ascertaining motor evoked potential including application and securing of electrodes.
•Operate and control settings of electrophysiologic recording device for monitoring motor evoked potential.
Measure, calculate, and log recorded electrophysiologic information.
Independently operate TMS machines and associated devices that are being used for clinical treatment and research protocols which involves:
Ascertaining motor threshold by evaluating motor evoked potential and/or finger twitch triggered by electromagnetic stimulation over the motor cortex.
Using motor threshold to determine coil position and treatment settings.
Correctly positioning the TMS coil.
Administering TMS according to protocol.
Operate emergency equipment, and assist in the management of emergencies such as seizures.
The technician will observe for adverse effects and notify the physician.
Assist with other clinical and research responsibilities including:
Answer calls and advise potential patients about electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and TMS.
Schedule patients for appointments.
Collect payment from patients and complete billing paperwork.
Obtain insurance authorization.
Purchase office supplies and equipment.
Data enter patient questionnaires.
Assist physician by reviewing clinical documents and research material and data prior to discussion with physician or other team members.
Adhere to all protocol requirements to ensure the validity of research data.
Performs delegated technical tasks and procedures per clinic’s procedure and guidelines.
Documents observations and findings in accordance with established protocols.
Participate in skill development and training through in-service programs to enhance knowledge level and to ensure mastery of patient care procedures.
Follows infection control guidelines such as, performing hand washing, maintaining universal precautions and properly disposing of needles and sharps.
Perform other duties as are consonant with this position under the direction of the physician.
High school education is required.
Current Maryland State LPN Licensure required.
Prefer a minimum of three (3) years of experience.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills with patients, physicians, and other health care team members required to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality of outpatient care.
Patient teaching assessment and coordination of patient needs within the clinic.
Sound knowledge of medications and all side effects.
Verbally identifies problems and suggests interventions to the physician.
Use of outside resources within the Hospital and community.
Ability to troubleshoot technical problems that may arise with machines.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, also ideally would have a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access and some basic knowledge of PowerPoint.
Must exhibit appropriate sensitivity to effectively interact with and direct patients who are suffering from a variety of psychiatric disorders.
Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:
Completion of the JHH credentialing process to include verification of CPR certification is required prior to start date.

Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
