The job will require rotating shift work on days, evenings, and nights. Weekday and weekend work will be required. Responsibilities will be for all aspects of the fermentation process up to 3000-liter scale:
Follow detailed instructions to execute and document tasks accurately and precisely.
Operate, monitor and control fermentation processes.
Operate, sterilize, clean, maintain, improve and repair fermentation equipment up to 3000-liter scale.
Adhere to safety policies and procedures.
Record data and observations into batch records and workbooks.
Interpret data and implement appropriate control changes based on an understanding of control parameters.
Work both independently and collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, including providing assistance to other teams.
Provide written and oral feedback to project leaders, team members and clients regarding observations and ideas for improvement.
Work non-routine hours on rotating shifts including evening, night and weekend work.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in two to three years of college, technical, vocational, trade or business school with coursework in a field related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in performing tasks related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require certification in the area of employment.
An Associates or Bachelors degree in a scientific field (e.g. Microbiology, Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related discipline) or documentation of equivalent knowledge based on hands-on experience.
The following attributes are desirable:
Excellent mechanical aptitude and trouble-shooting skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to routinely lift 50 pounds.
Proficiency with computers, especially MS Excel.
Hands-on experience with the operation of fermentation equipment.
1-2 years of experience working in a laboratory.
Experience with sterile technique.
Ability to connect assigned tasks to the larger objectives.
Organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing setting.

Summary of Physical Demands
Duties associated with this position involve lifting up to 50 lbs, carrying up to 50 lbs, and pushing/pulling up to 2000 lbs (with pallet jack).

Duties associated with this position involve wearing a respirator (does not include paper dust mask worn for comfort); working in a noisy (at or above 85 decibles) areas; and risks that have been identified by Environmental Health and Safety, such as working with chemicals and microorganisms.
