Under the general supervision of a faculty investigator, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing a large transgenic mouse colony, as well as performing laboratory management responsibilities. The candidate will also assist post-doctoral fellows and graduate students in the design and implementation of experiments related to neurodevelopment and degeneration. The ideal candidate will be highly organized with excellent communication skills.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Manage mouse databases, and perform breeding, tagging, weaning and PCR genotyping of mice in a large transgenic colony, including several multi-allelic breeding schemes.
Monitor inventory levels, order materials and supplies including lab consumables, glassware, and animals in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate, detailed data records, inventories and procedures in laboratory notebooks and electronically on file servers, ensuring their appropriate file backup, description, accuracy, and completion.
Manage and perform general laboratory tasks, including maintaining laboratory equipment and service contracts, preparing common reagents, ensuring safety and compliance day-to-day and for annual inspections, training new laboratory personnel, shipping/receiving reagents for collaboration with other investigators.
Follow established procedures or protocols and utilize aseptic technique to perform laboratory experiments which may include: q/PCR, Western blot, tissue culture, and histochemistry/microscopy experiments.
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field.
1 year laboratory experience performing relevant techniques.
Master's degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *
