Sr. Energy and Special Programs Analyst Operations - (19001029)
The Operations Division serves the four Tufts University campuses: the main Medford/Somerville campus, the Boston Health & Sciences campus, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts and the Grafton Veterinary campus together encompassing 170 buildings and 5.5 million gross square feet. A broad range of services are provided to support the university campuses including facilities services, capital program management, campus planning and renewal, campus engineering and energy management, event services and public and environmental health and safety. Together, these functions are responsible for the efficient, cost effective and safe operations of our university as well as the maintenance and management of our university assets to support our research and educational mission, vision and values.
The Operations Division is in a transformative state as it invests in technologies, processes and resources to implement asset / lifecycle-based management practices over its major investments in buildings, building systems, automated systems controls and major equipment components. Integral to the success of these programs is a foundational and evolving understanding of our energy consumption as it pertains to university investments in buildings and building systems as well as university decisioning with respect to energy purchasing and hedging strategies, energy cogeneration opportunities versus ongoing market comparators to articulate and anticipate both the success of decisions and the identification of expeditious course corrections along the way.
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Analyst to drive the analytics, projections, assessments and administration of the University-wide energy & utility information, programs and systems. Under the general supervision of the Director and in close coordination with the Director of Engineering, and university purchasing colleagues, the Sr. Analyst will gather, compile, and analyze university consumption and sustainability data with respect to university buildings, building systems and a variety of capital programs. The Sr. Analyst will be a key player, through his/her expertise and resourcefulness in reading and analyzing energy, performance and operating data from various university systems and sources, and identify corresponding energy consumption opportunities that give rise to future programs with compelling cost-benefit implications with respect to both financial savings and emissions reductions. The analyst will be responsible for ensuring that energy financial projections and budgets are timely and accurate thereby supporting fiscal decision making processes.
The Sr. Analyst will be responsible for overseeing the University Utility Bill Management Program which validates and processes the large volume of electric, fossil fuel, and water/utility bill data while monitoring for variances and deviations. The data collected from the utility management program as well as the university plant management, building automation and, metering systems, are all available to the Sr. Analyst to support various programmatic and operational needs. This includes but is not limited to, fault detection, systems optimization opportunities, energy modeling, project planning strategies, measurement & verification, emissions reporting, energy procurement, university-wide budgeting, projections, and financial modeling.
This role will also work closely with utility companies, consultants, brokers, and university stakeholders to create and evolve Tufts energy procurement policies which define when to buy, use and manage energy for the right price and most optimal terms. Through data analysis and reporting the Sr. Analyst will bridge information gaps that will enhance the University's abilities to meet not only energy and sustainability, but also play a key role in the development of standards and measurements to ensure that our capital programs meet their operating and performance goals.
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or closely related discipline
Job related experience in a similar role may be substituted for experience.

Ability to perform complex financial analyses drawing upon data for multiple sources and technologies; communicate the results in a clear and concise manner in writing and in meetings;
Ability to assume ownership of and provide leadership for significant projects, possibly in a client-facing role
Willing and able to rapidly learn new modeling and software platforms
Willing and eager to work on a variety of energy-related models and analyses
Knowledge of power and natural gas markets;
Experience with negotiations and project coordination
Ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Ability to handle confidential employee and administrative information with tact and discretion.
Self-starter focused on continuous improvements and executing transformative change.
Ability to prioritize tasks based on deadlines and project requirements.
Certified Public Accountant, accounting support or similar background.
Knowledge of interstate natural gas and power transmission systems;
Knowledge of rate design and utility billing structure
Previous Industry Energy Modeling experience preferred
Aptitude and ease in developing skills to access data from varied and complex systems
